| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 13, 2008 Poured from a 750 ml bottle, vintage 2005. Syrupy black with an ashy gray film. Forward and settled aroma of chocolate, raisins, molasses, and honey; trace of anise and red licorice; deep and full, with a clean pearly polish. Evocative and arrestingly bold, firmly founded on meatiness, spirit-like alcohol touch, and whiskey soaked, toasty oak. Flavor is full, rich, somewhat quieted; juicy dark roasts, dark chocolate, black cherries, and figs; the vinous and meaty characters of the malts striking a silky, smoky harmony that’s very rarely to be found in an imperial stout and is one of the finest, most winning characteristics of this style. Hard not to be struck by its balance. Thick and gorgeously textured silken palate, finishing on a decadent sweetness of maple syrup, red licorice and chocolate that coats the mouth swiftly. Textbook brilliance. Thanks to Andy and Alister!

Aroma of oak, vanilla and slightly oxidized malt. This tastes very similar to other porters I’ve had from this region: lightly smoked, slightly salty, sweet malt and some oak. A very little bit of licorice. Skyview (4121), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA

From a 750 ml bottle pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thin tan head that quickly dissipates to a thin tan film and ring. Aroma of smoked dark malt, a touch of raisins, and dark chocolate. Taste is full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of smoked dark malt, molasses, a touch of black licorice with some raisins. Finish is syrupy, semi-sweet with a lingering smoked dark malt and licorice aftertaste. Quite tasty! Furseth (1339), Kungälv, Sweden
