4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Christian (9697) - Odense, DENMARK - FEB 2, 2007
Jet black with a lasting light brown head. Dark malts, coffee, chocolate, hops, tobacco aromas. Flavour dominated by bitterness from hops and dark malts, but with plenty of body for balance. It’s a perfect beer for dark winter nights, but with my perverted taste, I can drink beers like this all year.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Maria (9569) - Thisted, DENMARK - FEB 18, 2007
Pitchblack with a very dark brown, creamy and lasting head. The aroma has loads of dark roasted malt notes, but mostly licorice and coffee. The flavour has a lot of strong licorice, black coffee, a hint of smoke and burnt figs and a light sweetness. In the eye of the hurricane this stout is mild and gentle, but once back in the hurricane I’m accompanied by a nice bitterness, more coffee, chocolate and licorice - and the finish is nice and long. A great stout! 1889

Swing top bottle. Pitch black and opague. Malt, coffee, licorice and dark chocolate in the aroma. Sweet, roasted malt flavor with lots of liorice, coffee, chocolate. Full bodied, creamy and velvety texture. The beer is massively hopped, but you only notice it loud and clear in the long aftertaste. At first it is almost hidden, just as the alcohol is. Thank you Maria, for providing me with this unique bottle.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 madsberg (8809) - Søborg, DENMARK - JAN 22, 2007
Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Huge brown quite creamy head. Aroma is full of roastyness, liqourice, light coffee and some chocolate. Is a bit herbal. Flavour is spices, roasted, has loads of liqourice, is herbal and has some light frehs coffeenotes. Full bodied. Ends on a roasty quite coffeish bitterness. Has some light alcholwarmth on lips and palate. Impressive brew. I had it right after a Beer Geek Breakfast, and it stood up to the chalenge. Ølfabrikken sure knows their black beers.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Koelschtrinker (8480) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 8, 2011
10/12/12/12/7/12

Jet black beer with a small tan-greige head. Nice hops nose, mixed with stout-like dark grains and a peppery, spicey note. Light-bitterish, very roasted but not scorched; bits of malt sweetness, and again a light spicey touch. Salty touch - seaweed? Very viscous, dense texture, and more carbonated MF than suggested. Another great Ølfabrikken beer - ideomatic, but very nice. Very big thanks to madsberg!

A Mes rate:
50cl bottle sampled while at ZBF. Huge thanks to Mads for giving me such a hefty serving of this. A superb imperial stout. All the inky car tyre character you could want, toasty and roasty with lots of chewy rubber. Glooriously chunky mouthfeel. Black as night with a mushroom coloured head that eventually vanished completely. Thick concentrated dark chocolate, black coffee and bags of chewy malt. Fantastic length that gradually turns bitter as it dies. Amazing stout.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - APR 14, 2007
Bottle thanks to Papsoe: Completely light-absorbing opaque pour has a spotty-lacing light brown head. Aroma of earthy, slightly ashy dark caramel malt with nice dark chocolate notes. Body starts dark caramely malty sweet with a hint of plum complexity, some roasty ash and lingering dark chocolate toward the finish. Body could be a little more viscous, but it’s very drinkable and smooth.
