Sampled at 4th NoVA Summer Brewfest; cask. Pours clear brown with a light, fizzy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, toast), light hops (earthy), and light esters (fruity) with notes of peat and smoke. Flavor is heavy malt, lightly bitter hops, peat, and caramel. Light body, warmth, and carbonation with a sweet finish.

On tap at Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, MD. Pours a hazy brown with a thin tan head that leaves crazy lacing. Big soy sauce aroma with some roasted nuts. Taste is soy sauce, biscuit, major English hops presence, some raspberry tart, big fruit juice sweetness. A bit of nutty bitterness at the end. Drying mouthfeel. 7.5% well hidden. Strange but nice.

On tap at Pratt. Pours a ruby color with a touch of haze under a medium sized yellowed beige head. Nutty malt, toast on the nose. Sweet and warming up front, malty. Malty, sweet toast, chewy malt with a touch of dark fruit. Long sweet malt, toast, gentle bitterness on the finish.

Sampler at Pratt St. Aroma- some caranel, alittle nuttines, some alcoho thogh subtle. App.- clear copper, med head off white. Flavor- Caramel, toffee. Lots of hops to balance out maltiness. Smooth mouthfeel. A little alc warming.

Tastes a bit like burnt coffee and caramel. Has a sweet smell to it with a tiny bit of burntness. However, the burnt taste was a bit of a welcomed surprise. I like.

Tap. Pours nutty brown with thin, creamy off-white head; decent retention and some lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malt, almonds, floral hops, figs, and light earthy notes. Flavor is malt forward with some supporting dark fruit esters and faint hops; dry, semi-sweet finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

Cask at Rustico Alexandria. Poured a slightly ruby red color with a small off-white head. Aroma was some nutty character, with sweet malts. Flavor had toasted malts, sweet malt taste, nutty character. Enjoyable.

On tap at the brewpub on 9/9/09: Pours a transparent dark amber mahogany with a thin, spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel malts with some nutty character. Starts with some dark malty sweetness and some caramel toffee and light fruity tartness before a drier bittersweet finish. A decent brown ale.
