Tastes a bit like burnt coffee and caramel. Has a sweet smell to it with a tiny bit of burntness. However, the burnt taste was a bit of a welcomed surprise. I like.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Thorpe429 (3526) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 22, 2011
On cask at Columbia Firehouse. Served in a 3 Lions Pint Glass.
Pour yields a dark brown brew that’s not at all transparent. Thin tan head with a bit of lacing. The nose brings some semi-sweet malt as well as a bit of caramel, brown sugar, and some dry earth. Almost woody. The taste is along similar lines with a bit of sweetness coming through from the malt, but then the backend is comprised of an earthy, woody presence that is oddly bitter and presents itself as almost tannic in nature. Drinkability suffers a bit because of this, though overall it wasn’t bad.
