We’ve just tapped the third in our “Ape” series of session beers. This one, “Beware The Beast Man … ” is a 3.8% ale, deep amber in color, with a little spiciness from the use of crystal rye and German Tettnang hops and a big hop finish (Columbus & Amarillo) and then dry hopped with Citra, Sorachi Ace and bitter orange peel.

Tap. Pours clear tawny brown with thick, frothy off-white head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is toasted and biscuit malts, lemon, orange peel, light caramel, floral and grassy hops, and light herbs. Flavor is dark fruit esters and pine hops (medium bitterness) with some sweet malt undertones; dry, lightly bitter finish. Light/medium body and low carbonation

Cask. Copper body, small off-white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, orange, some bread, caramel, light lemon. Taste is moderately sweet, orange, caramel, some bread. Soft light-medium body, light stickiness.

Tap at the source. Pours clear brown with a large, creamy tan head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is light toast and grain malt, husky notes, earthy and spicy hops. Flavor is heavy hops and bitterness, light malt and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
