2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Thorpe429 (3542) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 14, 2011
On cask at Churchkey on 11.17.2010. Poured into a snifter.
Pours a fairly-dark brown color with a bit of a crimson hue to it. Nice, soft white head with pretty good retention and a nice bit of lacing. The nose is a bit off with some notes of sulfur and light diacetyl. Some slight roasted malt character as well as a hint of some fruit.
The flavor is an improvement on the nose but is a bit boring and there’s still a bit of butter in there. Some light roast and coffee plus a touch of toffee. The feel is quite light with low levels of carbonation, even considering the serving method. Unfortunately, not one of the better beers I’ve had from Pratt Street.

20110305 tap at PSA. Chestnut brown with nary any head. This one was a comp from the awesome bartender who decided my dinner was taking too long. I am turned off a bit by the diacetyl in this one, but overall it is okay. I usually expect a mild sourness in a mild, or some other distinguishing character, but this one doesn’t seem to have much to offer. That said, its decently balanced and very drinkable (even despite the diacetyl). It is what it is.
