On tap at Pizzeria Paradiso. Has a distinct ginger aroma atop caramel sweet malt, a bit of spice and vanilla. Can’t detect much hop character. A hint of butterscotch. Dark orange-amber hazy with thin head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts with a bit of caramel and amber malt sweetness, though fairly dry. Carbonic acidity and light hop bite. Ginger flavor is pretty prominent, but well balanced. Nutty sweet and medium bitter finish. Ginger flavor in the after.

Draft at Pizzeria Paradiso. Golden color. Aroma of straw. Taste is very malty with a bot of spice. Not much wheat character. Refreshing and easy to drink.

Tap at Paradiso Dupont. Poured a slightly hazy orange with a thin, buttermilk head. Little retention and no lace. Sweet, malty, candy, slight lemon nose. Diacetyl in the nose. Taste up front is seltzer bubbly with orange sorbet and lemon. Then moves to slight diacetyl butteriness. Spices come into play throughout: ginger mostly atop fresh fruity tartness (berries, oranges). Soapy finish. Not much of a wheat character. I have a hard time believing this has 30% or more flaked wheat in the grain bill. Really has a big diacetyl problem that is not helped by having caramel malts reign free here instead of refreshing wheat- which would go well with the fruit and ginger character. Could turn into something pretty good with the kinks taken out.

Hazy gold body with a small white head. The nose is honey, dough, herbs and pepper. The flavor is spicy hops, pepper, dough, ginger and a touch of golden fruits. Medium/light body is round with moderate carbonation.

Draft - Dark amberish gold, thin white creamy head. Soft toasted ginger and nutty earth-like aromas right light undercurrents of sweet biscuit throughout. Light fruity ginger root and earth are well balanced on foundation of bready wheat tones. A faint British hop bitterness rounds to a crisp refreshing finish. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Well done. Bet this would be great with sushi..

On Tap at the General Sutter Inn. Pale color with small head. Out of the four we sampled this was in my opinion the worst. Aroma of medicine and old doctors office. Wheat flour palate which coated the tongue . This was not my thing.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2009 **Just added this beer, so I’ll be the first to rate it as well.

Location: On tap at the Pratt Street Ale House, 9/6/09

Aroma: Malty, a bit of wheat, biscuit, citrus, ginger
Appearance: Hazy golden color, medium white head
Flavor: Earthy, bready flavor, mostly malty, some spice, with a nice British feel
Palate: Crisp and refreshing, light-medium body
Overall Impression: This was a reasonably tasty beer, has a bit of a British feel to it, but is still a nice wheat ale, with many of those characteristics. I like it, they did a nice job with this one.

I was a bit blindsided by this. I’m actually not sure that the waitress gave me the right beer. Big oatmeal head on top of an oaky-tea colored beer. Smells like a bitter. Cinnamon, boozy, spicy, lightly woody, vegetable. Medium mouth, long bitter boozy finish -- it’s a strong wheat which comes off as a pumpkin ale almost.
