A big dark ale generously bittered with lots of New Zealand Southern Cross hops.

Pours a watery, translucent mahogany amber with some thin, off white head. Nose of orange, pine sap, some potpourri, malt, cracker, soap. Flavor is malty, brown bread crust, pithy orange, soap, pine. Bitter, almost chaff-y finish.

On tap at Pratt. Pours a deep brown with a thin to medium sized tanned beige head. Soft roast, malt on the nose. Sweet, big and malty. Big bitterness, roast, lots of toasty malt. Chewy and lightly tannic. Nice body, surprising, big bold long chewy bitterness into the finish.

Cask at Maxs. Ruby amber-black IPA, lots of fruity amber action as well among the chocolate. Cask..so very mellow, UK feel. Not as good as I hoped but still enjoyable.

Cask at Max’s Taphouse. Pours clear black with a medium, fizzy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is chocolate and roast malt, prunes, dates, and woody, earthy hops. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness, dark malt and fruity esters with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

5% dry hopped black ale Cask. Pours dark brown with thick, frothy beige head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is roasted and caramel malts, earthy hops, leather, chocolate, and woody notes. Flavor is roast malt forward followed by a heavy dose of rich, earthy hops and finishes with light chocolate and burnt coffee. Medium body and low carbonation.
