3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from a Tallinn supermarket. 5.4% ABV, Batch 049. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasted malt with some light creamy caramel. The flavour is medium bitter with a malt liqourice bitter, light barnyard, camembert cheesy, hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. A most unusual porter!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Tallinna Kaubamaja food department (€ 2,35) in June 2014. Batch 041. Pours dark brown; black in the glass with a minimal glare of red against light. Tan, very persistent head. Nose is first and foremost roasted malt with ashy, smoked ham as its sidekick. The imaginary ham here is the kind I love in wintertime pea soup. I kind of almost sense the peas here, too... Plus there’s some sweet caramel and bitter hops as well. Taste is, well, indeed quite robust as promised on the label, spearheaded by strong roastiness. It’s malty sweet and somewhat sour, also bitter. Medium body and carbonation, quite smooth palate, dry, smoky - nearly ashy - and bitter finish. As quirky as it sounds I now feel I must try it together with a good traditional pea soup on Vastlapäev (Shrove Tuesday). Must wait for half a year. Overall it’s surprisingly good - had way worse memories of it from the first couple of tries. I’d suggest this beer along some serious and amicable philosophical subjects (not, e.g. politics or football) by the fireplace on a cool early autumn evening.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Not outrageously smoked...am not a fan of the style, but this one is harmoniously done, with toasted caramel and malt notes keeping things relatively in balance.
