Strong porter brewed with rye and spruce. As always, unfiltered and re-fermented in the bottle.

Dark brown pour with large foamy tan head... Aroma of roasted malts, berries, nuts, smoke...Flavor is unbelievably unique, light fruity and nutty notes with berry notes on finish, spruce tips lend a light spicy fruity palate... Really nice ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2014 Bottle... Pours murky and black with a small, frothy, beige head. The aroma offers dark chocolate, caramel, fudge, dark berries and a vinous splash of tawny port. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and adequate carbonation. The flavor is bittersweet, acrid and deeply-roasted with a light, enjoyable components of brownie brittle and fudge. Finishes acrid and carbonic. Good stuff. Bottle courtesy of Bvery!

"This was ok, but ended up a bit of a fail on a few counts. I dug the spruce, and had fun with the name (what exactly is an imperial stout porter? Pick one) but it was weak on the imperial no matter which. Dark brown pour. Ok. Body was average for a beer, weak and fizzy for the style. I liked the spruce on the nose but that and an ill fitting green olive smell overpowered any toasty roasty goodness. Weak. Flavor was better, more spruce and olive, not As astringent, but still not that great. "

2012 vintage, Bottle - huge tan colored thick head, roast malt and definite pine aroma and flavor, mild silky chocolate notes - pretty good overall, definitely a little different. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ok, I see that people like this, or at least find it amusing/interesting. It just didn’t come together for me. Seemed like I was drinking two different liquids that were never meant to be together.

Bottle. Black pour with a thin froth of tan foam. Rye, light spruce, and perhaps some thin chocolate roast in the aroma. Taste is heavy on the spruce with a fruity spice. Odd taste. Clean, relatively light mouthfeel. Weird candied taste is throwing me off.

2013 750 mL swingtop. Near black with a thin tan head. Spruce, soy sauce, blueberry, and roasted malts. Moderately sweet with a soapy herbal finish. Body is lighter with active fine carbonation, but has sort of a lingering, soapy feel. Probably better served with a meal than enjoyed on its own to offset the aftertaste.

750 flip top bottle. Opens with a tremendous pop. Aroma shoots right out at you. Unfortunately this one seems a little infected...pours with a massive foamy beige head. Rye and spruce tones sort of mask it, but there are some unpleasant sour undertones. Like a really unimpressive amateur hour version of Anchor Christmas. Opened in late November 2013...sat on this one too long. Very disappointing.
