Olvi Dark is brewed in small batches. It is a full malt beer, and the ingredients used release their best qualities thanks to the beer being not pasteurized.

Bottle, which was unfortunately knocked over while I was drinking it, so I didn’t actually get to taste that much. Certainly malty and sweet, perhaps a little too sweet. Has that syrupy taste/texture that can go either way, but in this case probably the wrong way.

Bottle, cellar temperature. It pours quite foamless but a cloud stays for the whole beer. This definetly looks like the better dunkels I’ve (got) drunk (on). The aroma is trying, but dies out very weak. The taste has the sweetness of toffee and some of the smoke I expect to find in a beer like this. The nasty bitterness and lack of a longer finish diminishes this beers chances of a good/better grade.

[At RBESG 2006] An amber beer with a thin disappearing tan head. The aroma is quite light, what is there is sweet with notes of malt. The flavor is sweet malty with light notes of caramel. Quite boring, though nothing wrong.

Drinking from the bottle as I am I couldn’t tell you the colour. But that doesn’t interest me. Neither does this beer, as such. Nice and strong, just not strong in a way that entices me, like a woman with big deltoids

Bottled. Dark brown / red in colour. Rich creamy beige head. Lacings. It has a malty and kinda sweet aroma. It has a sweet malty taste with some coffee. Not all that much aftertaste.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2007 Bottled 0,50L. Creamy and dense foam, good adhesion and duration. Much dark brown color and lightly hazy one, medium fizz. Medium scent with notes of burned wood and toasted malt. Pungent and crisp taste, overbearing and balanced bitter body; optimal end with rumors of liquorice, ash and coffee.
Thanks to mabjork for this one.

Bottled. Clear, dark brown colour, with small beige head. Sweet malty aroma with hints of coffee and caramel. Flavor is watery, malty sweet and surprisingly sour, with perhaps some faint roasted coffee and caramel in the background. Sour and slightly bitter finish, with some roasted malt and coffee. Way too much carbonation!

Bottled. Dark amber/brownish colour with brown foamy head. Weak aroma of sweet malt, and some sour wooden hints. Sweetish bitter flavour, at first very sugary sweet flavour, just to turn into a very bitter finish. Watery beer. Not much aftertaste.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Very dark amber. Fine, almost Guinness-like off-white head which settles neatly - but never disappears - leaving laces inside the glass. Slightly sweet caramel-like malt character and almost no bitterness. A bit too light in body for my liking, but indeed a pleasant beer. 170405

Red-amber color. Caramel and malt aroma; cake, chocolate plumcake. Too watery, dry; some caramel and roasted malt flavor; too much bitter at the end.
