| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | May 7, 2008 Caramel hue and flecks of froth. Caraway rye bead and a soft doughy element set against dried leaves; a touch of alcohol. The scales tip towards the malts but it’s well attenuated. Hops and alcohol nibble in the slick finish; light carbonation.

| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Apr 3, 2008 The top is foamy but short lived. A bit darker than a regular lager. The aroma is quite bleak. At first the flavor is ok, but the finish just tastes like alcohol and metal, not good at all. It says a lot that I didn’t really want to drink the whole can. taunusmies (277), Finland

Palate is nicely carbonated, but a bit thin and metallic. Malty aroma with moderate bitter hops. Could have more malts though. Hildigöltur (5109), København, Denmark

Rated as part of an IVB blind tasting.
Not a doppelbock, not even a bock. Subtle knock-out juice is about right. Pale orange, tight creamy persistent white head. Sweet and weak lagery aroma. Tastes a bit blah. A bit sweet, a bit malty, a bit gingery perhaps at a stretch. Not noticably 8.5% at all, but just a bit metallic initially. I agree with Ako - the older doppelbock version was a different beast, this is too sweet.
