2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 dphoxie (58) - North Carolina, USA - NOV 14, 2012
aroma is sweet, appearance is copper/gold and not too opaque. taste was well balanced, but palate fell flat. just not awesome I feel like this with most OMB beers, they can hit the style pretty much spot on, but beyond brewing to style there is something missing. no pizzazz. still a solid beer, I enjoy trying new things, but not exactly worth seeking out.

From the bottle came a copper colored brew with a generous white head. MY nose detected floral maltiness, with a hint of cider. It felt moderately light in the mouth and tasted malty sweet with a light hop finish.

Bottle. Copper with frothy cream head. Smells like caramel and toast, lemon, nickel, and a hint of spice maybe some cooked veg (but that could just be my kitchen). Tastes immediately sweet followed by the light sour note and then a bit of astringency then ending simultaneously dry with a sweet overlay. Slightly hard mouthfeel.

Pint at Mac’s Speed Shop BBQ. Pours a clear copper with no head. The aroma is what I’d expect from a bock: vegetal and papery but thankfully not overpowering. The flavor is a little more bold with notes of eggplant, toffee, butter and wood. It’s a pretty straight up bock and reminds me why I don’t much like the style. This one is okay though, it’s not as intensely buttery or vegetal as some others I’ve tried. Upon reviewing the information on OMB’s website I learned this is intended to be a doppelbock. The alcohol and full-body are not apparent.
