While living in Germany during the 1990’s John fell in love with this amazing beer. There are few things more enjoyable than standing outside a historic brewpub on a warm summer evening in Düsseldorf’s Altstadt (“old city”), drinking a cold, refreshing Altbier as the sun sets over the Rhein river. Alt (pronounced ‘Aahlt’) literally means “old” in German, as in “old school.” In other words, it’s beer the old fashioned way. Technically, OMB Copper is ale due to the type of yeast it’s made from (Obergärig or top fermenting yeast), but a long time ago the folks in Düsseldorf learned that by lagering their Alt for several weeks after primary fermentation, the result was a full-flavored yet smoother and more refreshing beer. OMB uses authentic ingredients in our Copper Altbier, including expensive (but worth it) noble Bavarian hops. We also adhere to traditional, time consuming, costly decoction brewing techniques to produce this copper hued, amazingly satisfying “lagered ale.”

BOD 10/29/14. Pours a clear medium amber with a rich garnet cast. Normal head volume, exceptional lacing and normal retention. Light nose of biscuit with a bready background over a light caramel. As it warms, earthy noble hop notes are present. Heavy light body with a bit of creaminess and oiliness that produces a very smooth texture. I’ve never encountered so much texture in a body this light - exceptional job. Well carbonated with effervescence from the middle on. The World Class flavor profile is reasonably intense, superbly balanced and a bit complex. It begins with bready biscuit that flows into a very mild bitterness. As the bitterness fades, a slightly sweet caramel base is noted along with a hint of nuts. The finish is fairly clean and here is where the hop flavor comes forward, which I believe is Hallertau Mittlefruh. An outstanding Altbier.

Can’t smell hardly anything...very lightly of malt, VERY clear! Malty taste on front end very much like Budweiser on back end...a little better with time though

Pours a clear copper color with a large creamy off white head. The aroma is nutty and grainy with a touch of caramel but with a mostly bitter hop finish. The taste is caramel, hops and a nutty finish. Refreshing easy drinker.
