12oz bottle from ABC on Betton. Copper-orange pour with a thin white head that leaves a ring. Aroma is bready malt and citrus. Tastes are grainy, caramel, pine, honey, dough and resiny citrus. Has a tinny vibe. Eh.

Purchased at Evolution Wine & Spirits in Chicago, IL; enjoyed during the work week. This one wasnít very good, omitting a lot of flavor but for the most part one of the better gluten-free beers Iíve had. Still, nothing special or especially good.

Poured from a 12ounce bottle. This is one of the best gluten free beers I have had. A nice hop profile, solid bitterness. The grain character is good as well. There is a soapy off flavor but other then that not bad.

Bottle. Pours gold with a white head. Light citric hops, pale malts, and a light sweetness. One of the better gluten free beers Iíve tried.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a decent white head. Aroma of citrus and malt. Taste is citrus, pine, malt, caramel, and grain. Interesting for sure, but very drinkable.

This is not hop-forward. If anything positive, I like the appearance: fair lacing, moderate head, and a nice translucent hue with random globules. I want to like it because it seems that it ought to be good. The texture is a bit oily. The hops are old. Itís like a mediocre honey ale, which is weird because I did get a note of burnt coffee so I donít know what the hell is honestly going on here.

My first experience with a gluten free beer and it wasnít terrible but you can tell that something is off in the flavor. Interesting orange color and a good white head. Aroma is of hops and was strong but just not quite there in the taste as to be expected, i guess.

Fantastic beer. Pours great, nice citrus hop nose. Palate is medium, nice bitter balance with a bit of toasted grain. Surprise! No grains... Great beer that happens to be gluten free. Widmer never ceases to impress. -Fish!

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain, cereal, caramel, malt syrup), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, apricot, resin), with a light note of dried mango. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. How bizarre. From a brewery that can hardly make a good "normal" beer to save their lives comes two of the better GF beers on the market. But wait...are they really GF? Their website says these are made from typical brewing grains but the gluten is removed during the brewing process...but that they canít verify theyíre really GF..."product may contain gluten". All righty then. So that explains why these are so much better than true GF beers made from sorghum and so on. Sneaky fuckers.

UPDATED: SEP 27, 2012 12 oz bottle. I picked this up today because it seemed interesting. I had no idea what it was. The Widmer logo is on it, but itís faded and hard to see on the label. Itís like the brewers were purposely trying to distance this from their normal lineup. The slogan on the label "It isnít just what we took out, itís what we left in" intrigued me. I figured it was either gluten-free, alcohol-free, or something else entirely. It certainly doesnít say what it is on the label. Once I got to researching it, I realized it was indeed gluten-free. Anyway, aroma consists of piney hops and bready malt and doesnít smell rancid like most gluten-free beers. That being said, itís not particularly memorable for your average APA. It pours hazy orange with a medium collapsing off-white head that leaves some lace. Taste is remarkably good for a gluten-free beer, but itís completely average for an American Pale Ale. It starts out lightly sweet and finishes with a little bitterness. Carbonation is minute and the body is medium to thin. Itís very smooth and drinkable. The best thing about this beer is that it will be the first thing I reach for if I ever develop an allergy to gluten.
