COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Over the top carbonation, good amonts of bready sweet caramel malts. No hops to be found. There is an odd metallic flavor that dominates the finish with a bitterness that seems to be out of place.

Appearance - Pours a dark amber color into a snifter. A lot of carbonation with this beer compared with other quadrupels. About one and a half fingers of head. Heavy stickage to the side of the glass as it is swirled around. Smell - Malty and slightly sweet smell. Some dried fruit and earthy notes. Taste - Not as impressed as with some quadrupels I have had. Maybe it is because I have tried several quadrupels now (and am not used to Dubbels), but I feel as if this beer is just attempting to copy the other (better) quadrupels out there. I taste heavy malt taste that is not very sweet as all (despite the fact that my mouth and glass lip are sticky by the end of the tasting). Also in there are some dried fruits and earthy notes. Maybe some star of anise as well. Mouthfeel - Not too heavily bodied as to be overpowering. Despite there being a lot of carbonation on the pour you cannot taste too much of it in your mouth (a good thing for me). Overall - What can I say? Maybe I have become a quadrupel snob with the likes of Westvleteren 12 and Rochefort, but I like a sense of sweetness and fruit in my beer. This just feels like a semi-good imitation beer. Really cannot tell the big difference between a Quadrupel and Dubbel.

Deep, dark mahogany with a huge, frothy beige head that lasts forever. Aroma of caramel, raisins, toast, plums, red wine and mild Belgian yeast. Yeast, sweet and bitter flavors are well balanced, though they do seem to be a bit weak. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation, a creamy texture, and a dry, bitter finish.

12 oz bottle. Dark amber/burgundy pour with 1 finger head, some retention and nice lacing. Good looking beer. Nose is all over the dark fruit, honey, toffee, and malt. Taste follows the nose and has an additional subtle extra sweetness. There is also a back end bitterness to this that I am not too sure about. Carbonation is a little too high for my liking as well. Overall a good dubbel.

has to be the best mass marketed micro Belgian style double from a US brewer. when it comes to mass marketed micros, I find if I stick with the big boys(Rogue/ORE, Sierra Nevada/CAL, New Belgium/COL, Ommegang/NY, Unibroue/CAN), I tend to have better luck in finding a favorite than fishing some of the smaller ponds. Great stuff, thanks from Texas!

Bottle; Pour is a slightly clear mahogany hue with a beige head that retains fairly well; average lacing in this glass ; the nose is dark fruit, crackers, caramel, and port; the flavor profile is on the sweet side; caramel, toffee really; perhaps a hint of cocoa, a bit of bitterness from the hop profile. Dark fruits are fairly strong in this brew - This one feels like a good american version of a dubbel to me.
