17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 13, 2008 Updated: Dec 14, 200812 ounce bottle a year+ old. Pours a sticky looking murky maroon with a small fine fizzy beige head, must be too cold. Very rich sweet aroma, more like an english barleywine, sugary, loads of caramel and toffee, some oxidation, fruits, and doughiness. Taste is similar, barleywine like, rich velvety red berries, caramel and toffee, lightly nutty, slightly doughy, pretty straight forward with a slight tang. Its tasty but not exceptional. Nice body, medium, lightly syrupy with lots of fine easy drinking softer fizzy carbonation. chandler0201 (341), Durham, North Carolina, USA Nov 27, 2008 Pours amber color with thick tan head. Sweet aroma of caramel and some fruit. Flavor of malts and hint of alcohol in carbonation. Excellent. penguinjive7 (67), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 21, 2008 Pours a deep amber color with a foamy, tan head.
Smell is of sweat malt with many fruit notes intermingled.
The malt caramel-like malt is the first flavor to hit the tongue followed by a slight alcohol presence. The fruitiness comes through in the finish to truly bring all of the flavors together.
The carbonation is crisp and body is full but not thick by any means.
This is a great sipper that I would gladly sip from again. Definitely a great pick.

Aroma is burnt sugar and some dark fruits. Flavor is slightly buttery with some deep caramel malt flavors. Really rich with a nice lingering aftertaste this beer is velvety smooth across the palate with carbonation. BigBang (210), Indiana, USA Nov 17, 2008 Brown pour with one finger head that dissipates. Very fruity with a faint touch of caramel and fruit. Good but not overly memorable. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Nov 2, 2008 12 oz. bottle served in trappist glass- poured brown with dark maroon tints, high-medium carbonation, nice tan-brown head formed and dissipated slowly. Aroma of weak molasses, brown sugar, dark fruit, and malt. Hits the mouth with a medium body, spicy from the start, dark cherries and some plum going towards the middle, finish is warming and has more spice. Good. mattmc1973 (300), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Nov 1, 2008 25 oz bottle, pours dark burgundy. Frothy, off-white head that dissipates mostly, leaves a small head and lacing. Aroma is very nice, of cherries, sweet malt, and a lot of brown sugar. Taste is brown sugar, caramel, cherries, sweet bread, and a slight tinge of citrus. Mouthfeel is a bit lighter and more watery than many Belgians, but not too thin. Overall, a very nice representation of the Belgian dubbel style. I’d buy this again. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 31, 2008 (Bottle) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with toffee, caramel, dried fruit (figs, dates) and a touch of liquorice. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, toffee, dark bread, dried figs and dates, cherries and blackberries. A touch of liquorice, followed by a spicy bitterness in the finish. Big and bold, not far away from a spicy, fruity and harsh oak aged red wine in flavour. Very nice, lots of taste. In short: dried fruit, toffee, liquorice and blackberries with spicy hops.
