Unique aroma, dark and fruity, like licorice and chocolate. Dark fruit flavor comes out in the taste, with a noticeable edge of hops. The alcohol blends in well also, but it’s noticeable. Great dubbel, one of the best I’ve tried. yumyum (122), barrie, Ontario, Canada

I have considered chimay rouge my go to beer if I want a tasty beer that is also easy drinking. This is my new standard for a dubbel. I has a much richer colour than the chimay. I has more of a fruitiness both on the nose and the palate.. Carbonation is quite minimal which gives it a nice mouthfeel. I could drink this ofter. Very good beer. flatmatt (222), Northville, Michigan, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 20, 2008 12 oz bottle from premier gourmet. pours hazy dark amber with a lovely tan head that is thick and luxurious throughout your drinking experience. the aroma is of dark fruit, pale malts and belgian yeast (loses one point for noticeable alcohol). caramelized rum soaked raisons. the flavours are similar but they are accompanied by a soft comforting mouthfeel that in my mind is perfect for a dubble. my bottle was fresh but a little age on this would make it almost impossible to beat. very good brew that i wish i could purchase regularily. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Bottle, 8.5%. Yeasty, slightly funky aroma. The flavour starts off very malty with some malt syrup, melassis. Ends on a citric note that lifts the beer a bit. Has a little cardboard to it, but it does not matter much.
