It certainly has that dubbel appearance down, opaque and dark ruby-red with a giant cappuccino foam head that lasts a really long time. Sweet, spicy, and faintly alcoholic aromas that smell like something you would drink at Christmas. Still sweet but with some bitterness and alcohol heat coming in on the tongue. The flavor is intensely dry, a bit too much for my tastes. Thick and nicely carbed. Good dubbel, especially given how easy it is to find and it’s reasonably low price.

Pours a rich copper and mahogany color with a fruity and licorice aroma. Taste is sweet, with notes of honey and toffee. The alcohol content is masked well by the sweet flavors and malt. Licorice, is tasted throughout with a dry finish and well hidden spice. An excellent surprise for the style.

Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Appearance was cloudy reddish brown with lasting beige creamy 2 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are slight caramel, toffee malts with licorice, anise then soft estery yeasts. Taste are malts forward with sweet toffee, gram cracker, brown sugars midway. Licorice, anise with soft fruits of plum, fig and slightly drying finish. Palate was creamy smooth CO2 with medium-full body, lasting spicy finish. Solid Dubbel, but touch to much spice.

Pours a dark burgundy with a foamy, long-lasting white head. Has an aroma of sweet yeast and fruit. Flavor is dark fruit, caramel, and yeast, along with a little bit of an alcohol bite. Delicious.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Unclear deep ruby, fine creamy tan foam settles and lasts. Aroma of sweet malt, dark fruit and yeast. Taste is not too rich toasty caramel/toffee malt, quite yeasty, darker fruitiness, raisin, fig, plum, some spice, herb and earth. Average carbonation, medium bodied, moderately hopped. Poured from a bomber. Pours a dark, burgundy red with an extremely foamy off-white head that sticks around a long time. Pour slowly! Smells of yeast, malt, and dried fruits. Tastes very rich in the abbey ale tradition, yet not too heavy and syrupy as some do. Drink this from a tulip glass and don't rush it. Simply enjoy!

The abbey pours a dark burgundy color with a thick white head. The body is dark and hazy, full of wonderful flavor and aromas. The aroma is filled with caramel malts, fruit and spice, as well as an alcohol kick in the nose. The palate is full and the alcohol has a nice warming quality to it. Favors of sweet caramel, dried dark cherries, prune, and yeast dance on the tongue. These favors mingle for a time and finish slowly.
