3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
FROM NOTES: July 3, í12
Poured from corked 750ml bottle into a goblet.
A: Very malty, with a hint of dark fruit, rasins, spices, and a faint oatmeal note.
A: Pours a dark dirty reddish color with a nice head that falls at a good pace leaving a thin layer on top and decent lacing.
T: Big bready flavors off the bat. Slight sourness intermingles, and then the fruits kick in. Some interesting hints of grape and raisin. Finishes quite dry and very bready, much like the scent.
P: Medium body that looks thicker than it is. A bit creamy and very nicely balanced carbonation.
O: A complex, outstanding beer. An initial stroke of lightness fades to slowly let in a wave of darkness; it takes a special kind of brewer to achieve something like that. Quite simply, this dubbel is really one of the best out there.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Do not open this cold! Pours a muddy brown with thick, creamy head. Lots of sticky lacing coats the glass. Aroma of dried fruits, raisins, sweet malt, molasses. Taste is initially bitter, mildly sweet with a medium weight and abrupt finish. Pretty good approximation of the style.

Thanks to HisBoyElroy for splitting. A very bland tasting beer to me. I think itís a little overrated in my opinion.

The Ommegang Abbey Ale pours a very deep burgundy amber with a bubbly light tan head that lasts a good while and leaves nice lacing. The aroma is grape, raspberry, with caramel. The flavor is a hodgepodge of fruits with licorice and caramel. Overall this is a very nice brew. I would definitely recommend trying.

Smell of malty, yeast, and sweets, with banana nut like smells too. Very pleasant. Banana nutty flavors, sweet but not sugary. Doesnít taste nearly as strong as it is. Very well balanced. Awesome abbey. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
