4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A- poured a deep cloudy ruddy brown with a rich creamy cappuccino head. Great retention and big lacing throughout the beer. S-redolent with dark fruit (raisins and cherry), citrus, and spices. T- this is what a dubbel is supposed to taste like. The amalgamation of the ingredients is incredible, with no one flavor drowning out any one else but all of them harmoniously coexisting like a Belgian Beer commune. Fruit, spices, roasted malts all have a chance to move across your palate. M- full, with a slight slick unctuous character O- an outstanding example of the dubbel style.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Poured into a Chimay trappist glass. Nice malty, fruity aromas. Very similar to the Chimay red. Very nice head, dark amber to brown malt colored with some lacing. Head dissipates as flavors improve. Somewhat sweet with a bitter aftertaste and reminiscent of the Chimay red. Full body flavor with some mild carbonation but somewhat thick on the tongue. I enjoyed this brew.. Definitely a great version of the Abbey Dubbel. I prefer the Chimay but this matches the Westmalle Dubbel in my book.

4.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Excellent beer tastes like a farmhouse ale without the sugar taste. Caramel + honey like the reviews said.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep reddish brown with a thin, off-white head. My nose is stuffy and I almost inhaled beer into my brain but the lingering smell on my nostril is like plums. Flavor is all over the place. Some chocolate and faint fruity sweetness stick out and in true Belgian style, it is pretty prickly on the tongue after it goes down. Ommegang has yet to disappoint me, and as the bottle empties, it seems I’m drifting off into some sort of depression. Yeah, this is a good brew.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ Deans Winter Shelter Tasting, courtesy of deanso, aged for 10 years! Pours an amber brown beer with a small, off white head on top. Aroma is mostly madeira and port, alongside some very dark ripe fruits. Flavor is rather sweet with sour touches, definitely noticeable age in there. Not really sure that the aging did this beer very much good. It has all faded and blurred into a sweet sour beer. Still enjoyable thought, and you can taste that the original was really good. Nice.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Best by: unk
A: Pours a honey brown ale with good clarity. Three fingers of peanut head falls to a quilt of the same over several minutes. Cobweb lacing.
S: Bananas, coriander, yeast. Pretty sweet and simple nose profile here. It’s not really impressive. Pretty simple and sweet.
T: Really alcoholic upfront to me. Then plenty of sweet malts, raisin, copper, and hints of nutty yeast. Again, nothing special. A bit too much sweetness again, really one dimensional. Hints of cardboard (oxidation) in here as well.
M: Medium on thin for the style and relatively high carbonation in the style as well. Nice slick finish.
O: I could really take or leave this one. It’s far from the best dubbel I’ve had, and it is (IMO) more sweet and one dimensional with the sweetness level.

Bottle at Dean’s Winter Shelter Tasting @ ABCBeers. 10 years old. Brown pour. Aroma of madeira, aged malts and old beer. Decent and well aged, but should try it fresh again to taste how it should taste.
