Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

bottle, deep, reddish purple pour with a HUGE offwhite head. Very fruity bouquet. Deep rich taste of fruit and caramel, slight alcohol aftertaste which makes sense for the ABV. Very good would buy again

750 mL bottle. Pours dark rust color with large beige head. The aroma is fruity, with banana, prune, tamarind, and some spicy clove hints. The flavor is sweet dark fruits with a sharp yeasty spiciness. The finish is dull chocolate, alcohol, and a little bit of licorice. Pretty easy to drink, even if a little bit uninspired.

Bottle from the Liquor Barn in Redding, CA. Poured a very dark amber and smelled of toffee and carmel. This is a full-bodied brew with hints of carmel . The rich flavors came out even more and the beer warmed up a little. Great brew.

[bottle] Poured at a blind tasting at the Cellars. Yeasty, funky aroma. Pours amber gold with a large tan head. Flavor is brown sugar, caramel, dark fruits, yeast, and a pleasant tartness that creeps in. Pretty good stuff.

Bomber on 5/5//2008. Ruby brown pour with a foamy medium head settling to a thin ring in a few minutes. Fruity aroma of raisins and plums over a backdrop of caramel and spice. Medium/full body with very lively effervescence, leaving the palate fairly clean. Maltiness dominates the flavor, providing a sweet backbone, but substantial spicy bitterness comes on quickly for a welcome, if surprising, dry finish.

Pours a dark brown with a solid head. Pretty tastey but i find it a bit less complex than three philosophers. A generally solid brew that is very drinkable. I will likely buy another bottle of this at some point

I could drink this stuff forever. Some malt, but not as much as some. I’m tasting hops and caramel. Lots of alcohol, but in a good way. Nice fluffy head and a great brown color. WONDERFUL!

Nice Strong Ale. Pours dark, with a lot of thick head. Strong aroma of honey and caramel. A thicker beer, but very delicious and complex. A good beer for after dinner.
