Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Hazelnutty earthy flavors, candi sugar, yeast, prunes; reddish copper color; a little on the boozy side; not really for me.

Dark and musky. Looks can be deceiving to the tongue. A great start, peak, and finish. Deep aroma and subtle vapors.

Bottle. Labeled as “Abbey Ale”. Large light brown creamy head that mostly lasted. Hazy amber – brown color. Good display of lacework. Thick and complex aroma of yeast, fruit, toffee, toasted malt, nutty, dried fruit, spice. Full bodied with an average carbonation and thick light alcoholic texture. Moderated sweet flavor with hint of acidic and bitterness. Sweet toffee lingering finish. Quit nice.

I have enjoyed this beer a few times in the past. Sweetness is nice and not overpowering. It pours a dark amber color with a nice head. This beer would be perfect after visiting the Hall of Fame!

THOUGHTS: Had this a few time, but forgot I never rated it. This small bottle of it didn’t seem as good as the big bottles I’ve had in the past, but It was still pretty good, so I don’t think it was skunked but something was off. TECHNICAL: Small bottle. Poured a medium, reddish brown with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished but left fair lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy caramel malt with red wine, brown sugar, spices and slight fruitiness from dark fruit and maybe just a note of skunk that usually isn’t there. The initial flavor was moderately to heavily sweet and sour, while the finish was havily sweet, lightly acidic and bitter and sour with and average duration. The flavor was caramel malt and some fruitiness (apple and cherry) and a little spiciness with some honey and even a little coffee and cola. The medium body was syrupy with fizzy carbonation.

Deep copper color with a decent sized cream colored head. Light yeast aromas with brown sugar, raisins and dates. Grapes and raisins in the taste as well as caramel. Slight hop bitterness in the finish.
