jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Mar 17, 2008 Deep copper color with a decent sized cream colored head. Light yeast aromas with brown sugar, raisins and dates. Grapes and raisins in the taste as well as caramel. Slight hop bitterness in the finish. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Mar 17, 2008 Amber to red in color. Smell is sweet, you can smell the alcohol, malts, and some fruits. Medium body. Taste is sweet with some fruitness. Dry finish. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Mar 17, 2008 Pours a dark reddish-brown color with a big fizzy tan head and good lacing. Sweet aroma of dark cherries, yeast, and spicy maltiness. Flavor is similar, sweet with dark fruits and malt. Nice dry finish. This is a very solid brew, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as some of the other Belgian Ales I have sampled. thill25 (216), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 16, 2008 12 oz. bottle...Poured a toffee brown mized w/ some shades of molasses. It had a fizzy off white head w/ considerable amount of lacing. Nose of banana, yeast, caramel, and apples. Tastes like raisins, candied dark fruits, a tad of banana, and some malts. Fizzy mouthfeel, w/ a dry sweet finish. Very solid beer... Oxymoron (104), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Mar 12, 2008 Poured a rich dark red with murky brown highlights when held to the light. An ample head with limited lace. The head retention remains but did not last throughout the whole tasting. The aroma is sweet but more malty then what I consider a “Belgian-esk” smell. A great fragrance of malt with plums more then raisins and a hint of peach or at least a fruitiness quality. The taste is very rich. A good presence of malt that is complex, smooth and tasty. A stronger plum flavor with a lighter spice quality. Lighter in the spices, more cloves and nutmeg but maybe some cinnamon too. The aftertaste has a banana and molasses quality that mixes well. Also a taste of sweetness like brown sugar. One thing I just have to repeat is the rich smoothness it has. The body is medium to full. Limited carbonation. Overall a good Abbey ale. A stronger malty then a average Abbey. Also the yeast is a more subtle. Well, my suggest is you should try this. KnutAlbert (3101), Oslo, Norway Mar 12, 2008 Bottled. Ruby/brown
Nutty, chewy, sweet fruit .
Fine Belgian style sourish edge. Great beer. MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Mar 11, 2008 Poured from a 750ml caged and corked bottle and served in a tulip. This beer poured an attractive mahogany brown with a few ruby highlights and a thick, fizzy head of tan foam. Excellent retention and a fair amount of slippery lacing. The aroma of the beer was made up of dates, ripe dark fruit, chocolate, graham cracker, and a bit of bready yeast. The flavor included notes of dried dark fruits floating on a nice backbone of honey graham cracker maltiness. Just a touch of warming alcohol shows up as the beer reaches the back of your tongue. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with a moderate amount of very soft carbonation. An inviting aroma and a tasty, complex flavor make this a memorable beer everytime. Very nicely done! gabrielsyme (66), Ohio, USA Mar 10, 2008 750ml bottle. red-mahagony brown, tastes of sweet malts and some cherry. very good with the roast beef my friend cooked
