Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Caramel head. First I smell plum and dates. Taste creamy sweet dark fruits and a skightly metalic finish over all a good beer.

750 ml bottle - Pours a cloudy dark amber color with medium sized creamy light tan head. Aroma is creamy, fair amount of caramel, light chewy malts, notes of cherry, raisen. Flavor is malty, chewy, fair amount of caramel, raisen, dates, figs, with a balanced, dry finish. Nicely done overall.

More like a champagne than a beer. Has a nice light brown pour with a champagne like head. Aroma of strong citrus and toffee. Very carbonated, perhaps too much, and it took away a little from the taste. This would be a bit higher on my list if there were just a few changes made. Altotether still, a fine beer.

750ml-A cloudy hazy dark brown with a huge tan head which emots an aroma of roasted malt, caramel, yeast, hops, and slight alcohol. Taste of this full bodied brew comes across with a taste of the same with a bit of sourness and sweetness. A great tasting brew.

hazy, dark reddish brown. decent small, off white head. very fruity aroma, apricot, white grapes, hint of pumpkin spice. not as much "punch" as a normal belgian strong ale as it hides a bit of the alchohol and is a little smoother. fruity taste. i get sugary malt and spices.

Re-rate: Just had a tap of the 2009 version, it was so full of Diacytel (butterscotch bomb) that I declined ot drink it. What happened? Pours a dark ruby brown color with a large pillowy head and disappearing lacing. Aroma of sweet sugars, dates, some dough as well as pineapple and spice. The flavor is spicey, candy sugar sweet, caramel, almonds, and bananas. Medium bodied, dry bitter finish. I need to start paying more attention to Ommegang!

Sweet caramel and bready malt. A mild acidity provides some slight sourness. A good amount of cherry, a little plum. Flavor washes out a bit in the finish. Pretty clean yeast doesn’t leave a ton of esters. Not bad, but pretty generic for the style.

Aroma: Malty sweet (moderately), honey, raisiny, vinegar, and, uh, brussel sprouts. Taste: raisins mix in w/ sweetness, but are kept in check by a slight sourness. Fairly good, but not all that inviting.
