Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Great beer. Tastes much like the Chimay’s, but substantially less expensive. Good color, aroma, head and finish. I really like this beer....it also packs a pretty good punch!

Great belgian strong. Tastes more alcoholic than it really is. Doesnt finish as nicely as the description suggests.

Poured an orange tinted light brown with a tall foamy tan head. There was a sweet aroma with a undertone of hops. The taste was creamy with a little citrus flavor followed by a mild sweetness of caramel. There was a nice hoppy bitter finish, but not to overpowering. There was alot of mingled flavors in this beer, which to me makes it good when its hard to put a finger on the various flavors. The alcohol was hidden pretty well.

Bottle, 75cl corked. (RBNAG 07) Pours a hazy, orange-brown body, with a dense, beige head. Sweetish, roasted, slightly oxidized aroma and flavor. A bit too oxidized flavor I think. Full-bodied, slightly sourish in the mouth, and quite sticky. A nice beer, but considering it being quite fresh, it shouldn’t taste as oxidized as a twenty year old beer. (071103)

750ml bottle. Pours a chestnut brown body with a towering khaki colored head. Measures at least 3 1/2 fingers thick with incredible retention and lacing. Nose of cherry pie, caramel candy, raisins, plums, candied sugars, funky yeasts and tropical fruity esters. Also maybe some brown sugar at the very end of the aroma. Flavor is semi-sweet chocolate, raisins, prunes, plums, candied sugars and yeast. Back end of the sip produces some more fruity esters and a drying bitterness. Medium bodied, slightly sticky but far from cloying. Finish is lengthy, chocolate, cherries, caramel and tropical fruits carry on to the end. When they say the finish dries out, they aren’t kidding. Not a favorite of mine, but this is a good beer.

Thick head, dark beer, very sweet smell or dark chocolate and Cherries. This was given to me from a friend for New Years 2007/2008. Taste is Caramel and dark chocolate. Alcohol is present but not in a bad way. My Wife hated it which automatically makes it a good tasting beer. Delicious!

Muddy brown color, small beige head. Chocolaty and a bit fruity, propably some notes of oxidation. First impression: anise ... then some licorice, caramel backed with malts. Short finish, alcohol is very well hidden. Very interesting, something similar to Gouden Carolus Christmas. Fabulously balanced.

Bottled (thanks Degarth). Brownish amber colour with mediumsized beige head. Aroma is alcohol, spices and herbs. Flavour is spices and licorice. Slight notes of some caramel and candyish sweetness. I think this could do with some "heavier meaty foods" better than it’s without.
