T2Tool (352), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Jul 30, 2009 Poured from a 12-oz bottle into a standard pint glass. Appearence was murky brown with a nice fruity aroma. Taste of raisons, plums and cherries with a slightly spicy kick in the aftertaste. DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 27, 2009 Aroma is full of dark fruits, raisins, figs, and spice. The appearance is brownish color with a full beige head, sexual lacing, awesome head retention. The flavors are a bit watered down, but full of alcohol spice, with some hops? It is a bit bitter, not as smooth as what I imagined. zdk (180), New York, USA Jul 26, 2009 I was surprised at how successful the brew was. Great caramel malts (slight chocolate hints), spicy fruits (prunes and something else). Beautiful appearance and creamy mouthfeel. This beer was a hit at the party. hopheadfett (50), Oak Ridge, New Jersey, USA Jul 23, 2009 Pours red/brown, nice large tan head. Nose of caramel, dark fruit, some spice. Taste is sweet malt, some spice, and finishes a little sour, some alcohol is apparent as well. As the brew warms, more sweet notes become noticeable, and becomes much more enjoyable in my opinion. Overall a great beer, and a good execution on the style. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jul 22, 2009 Bottle sampled at the Belgian tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 7/17/09. Pours brown with a big tan head. Nutty aroma with some Belgian yeast and caramel. Cloying sweet caramel flavor redeemed by a roasty and nutty finish. RHeastings (377), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 21, 2009 Enjoyed from a 750ml bottle in an elongated tulip glass. The beer pours a medium to deep brown, with an ivory to off-white head. Aromas of caramel come through in the nose, along with some Special B malt-derived raison. The palate brings malt and depth first, and then seems to settle back with a touch of sour at the finish. Overall, a classic. pete4999 (121), Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 20, 2009 This is good, but I think it’s kinda overrated, per the ratings on this site. Nice pour, dark brown, looks and smells sensational. Khaki colored head lasts forever. Really a beautiful look and spicy smell. Smells like prunes/dates, maybe black licorice. Spicy, deep taste. Tough to pin down the taste - dark fruits, clove. Creamy mouthfeel. Better than average for sure, but I don’t think this is the 3rd best Dubbel in the world. bdjames29 (272), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 18, 2009 Bottle compliments of Reverend Marshall. Proper glassware probably would have accentuated the character if this fine dubbel but it was enough of a beer to overcome being consumed out of some type of squatty juice glass. Dark brown and a touch hazy. Fluffy, foamy, tanish head. I always pick up immediately on the sweet, dark fruits with dubbels and did again with this one. A nice clean, dry finish. A solid beer from Ommegang.
