4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Great aroma of dark prune-like fruit and toffee sweetness with a touch of peaty earth. Body is a hazy brown and head is a thick froth of tan. Flavor is thick and fruity with a big sweet punch. Alcohol is present but doesnít dominate... just provides a bit of warmth. The fruit flavoring gives just a touch of a sour pucker midway through the development. The malt presence has a bit of a smokey/peaty flavoring. Nicely blended.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Best by: unk
A: Pours a honey brown ale with good clarity. Three fingers of peanut head falls to a quilt of the same over several minutes. Cobweb lacing.
S: Bananas, coriander, yeast. Pretty sweet and simple nose profile here. Itís not really impressive. Pretty simple and sweet.
T: Really alcoholic upfront to me. Then plenty of sweet malts, raisin, copper, and hints of nutty yeast. Again, nothing special. A bit too much sweetness again, really one dimensional. Hints of cardboard (oxidation) in here as well.
M: Medium on thin for the style and relatively high carbonation in the style as well. Nice slick finish.
O: I could really take or leave this one. Itís far from the best dubbel Iíve had, and it is (IMO) more sweet and one dimensional with the sweetness level.

Bottle at Deanís Winter Shelter Tasting @ ABCBeers. 10 years old. Brown pour. Aroma of madeira, aged malts and old beer. Decent and well aged, but should try it fresh again to taste how it should taste.

Light on its feet considering the wide variety of aromas and tastes within. Pours beautifully and gives you one more reason to mount an expedition to Cooperstown. Enjoyed from a 12 oz. bottle.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A darker abbey than I was expecting, but a solid beer. Dark caramel and sweet bready malts and a burnt finish make it very good but not my favorite ommegang overall.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Smells like a nice beer. Non homogenous appearance throughout. Darker in the middle. Taste is complex. Multiple tastes required to put words to this delicate beauty. Palate similarly complex. I found this beer in a 750 mL bottle at my local Costco. Good beer to give as a gift for sharing and celebration. Would not drink a whole bottle in one sitting myself.
