Dark brown, very tight wispy head. Yeasty blue cheese aroma. Quite lively in the mouth. Full-bodied, but not as full as I would hope and expect from a dubbel, which it claims to be. On swallowing it fills out a little. Decent grainy taste, but spoilt by slightly too prominent alcohol. A very good simulacrum of Belgian brews, but not a patch on their best. Muddy, dark amber. Aroma is slight sugary with notes of dried fruits. Flavour has dried fruits, marzipan, residual sugars, has a slight sourish undertone that I fancy, and is a little buttery. The finish is long and pleasant. ratman197 (3276), Arvada, Colorado, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 23, 2005 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & GregClow at Le Select Bistro -- aged approx. 5 years. Pours a lightly cloudy dark red-ruby with a small diminishing off-white head. Not that much sediment considering the age of the bottle. Complex aroma of fruit, caramel, wine, grain, raisin and much more. Smells wonderful. Very nice, surprisingly smooth, flavour of plum, raisins, spices, caramel and alcohol. This ages extremely well -- I look forward to trying a newer bottle to compare.
