COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Cloudy, dark chestnut body with a nearly uniform off-white head. After about one minute, the head dissipates to a thin film. The lacing is spotty and sudsy looking. There is an appealing aroma of caramel, candy sugar, dark fruits, apples, root beer, and a faint bit of alcohol. The flavor blends all of these aromatic elements together into a sweet, creamy, fruity caramel concoction. The taste is really, really good. I would classify the body as medium and very smooth. It’s sweet but not overly sticky. Alcohol is apparent, but not excessively so. Very nice brew. Probably my favorite out of the standard Ommegangs.

12oz bottle from puzzl, thanks Andy! lightly hazed cheery brown with a huge beige head; nose of cloves, caramel, figs, and nuts; flavor has caramel, raisins, spices, and some light bitterness.

750ml. thanks to holdenn for offering and i finally rate this beer i’ve had countless times but probably not for the past year. pours hazy reddish brown with off white head. nose is very red fruits, plums, with hints of caramel. flavor is very red fruity, plums, pears, some caramel, yeasty, malty. flavor seems weak and watery to me. i’ve never thought that about this beer before. mouthfeel is low to medium. carbination is a tad high. a decent belgian beer.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2010 Very strong IPA taste that does not resolve after swallow. Unexpected for a dubbel.
RE-RATE 2/20/10 I shot the cork across Fratto’s living room. It was awesome. Hazy reddish pour with foamy bread tan. Spicy Belgian aroma. Lots of dark fruit and spiced grain. Taste is fairly smooth with light fruit. Spice is quite subtle compared to the aroma. A fee dry notes with also clay and cherry. Dry finish that remains flavorful. Some alcohol is sensed.

750 ml fresh bottle. Cloudy amber color with a decent sized head. Nice aromas of dough, grape peel, toffee and caramel. Taste is smooth with the right amount of carbonation. Flavors of chocolate and banana, bubble gum and caramel. Wonderfully complex a much different beer fresh than aged. Both are good.
