But it was still fantastic stuff. Aromas of brown sugar, molassas, and fruit. Flavors were very sweet with sugar cane and more maltiness like caramel. Very tasty stuff. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 24, 2004 Deep, murky mahogany. Nose deeply sweet, plums, sugars, port, and grapes. Flavor is nicely sweet, some molasses and plums, lots of candy sugar. Hints of nuts and mild roasty bitterness, pleasingly fluity and rich, lovely kiss of chocolate at the end. Full and chewy, nice mouthfeel. Definitely a beer that has to be sipped at the proper temperature, sampled too cold it has a bit of an astringent bitterness, but at the proper temp it’s just lovely. tronraner (1939), Seymour, Tennessee, USA

The aroma is fruity, with banana, prune, tamarind, and some spicy clove hints. The flavor is sweet dark fruits with a sharp yeasty spiciness. The finish is dull chocolate, alcohol, and a little bit of licorice. Pretty easy to drink, even if a little bit uninspired. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 2, 2005 A deep brown beauty for color with copious foam in the trappist glass - thick and tan head, with wonderful lacing. Aroma is licorice, toffee, caramel and milk chocolate. Fizzy when it first hits the palate, but after letting it sit for about 15 minutes, the fizz subsided and the malts became superstars. Flavor is toffee and licorice, caramel, fresh bread, tobacco leaves, figs and plantains. Finish is tobacco and dry chocolate. This is liquid candy. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
