3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BillKismet (2653) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 4, 2003
Poured a gorgeous incarnadine-ruby color, but the brown head was too foamy. Gentle evergreen forest aroma with a slight banana towards the end and a noxious ether presence in the middles. The beer washes over the mouth, drowning it in alchohol that numbs the tongue and teeth like an anesthetic even though the abv is listed as only 8.5%. Banana asserts itself towards the end.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 aracauna (2649) - Georgia, USA - NOV 13, 2002
Dark, cloudy brown body with an airy, faded khaki head. The aroma is surprisingly whiskey-like. Caramel and toffee ride over a light burn of alcohol. The carbonation is cottony but not too much so. There’s a very faint acidity underneath the malt.

750 ml bottle at Le Select Bistro - shared with blankboy and HogTownHarry. Somewhere around 6 years old according to our server. Pours a dark, murky burgundy colour with lots of little floaties and not much head. Aroma of rich wine/port and fermented cherries. Body is initally fizzy, but softens quickly, and rolls over the tongue very nicely. Flavour starts with a muted caramel sweetness, followed by notes of tart fruit, and a hint of roasted coffee in the finish. Alcohol is really well hidden. Develops a musty, ash-like quality as it warms up. Could be a bit past its prime, but still pretty nice stuff. I’d love to try a younger bottle for comparison.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 SaintMatty (2645) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - MAY 23, 2008
750ml Bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)- Brown in colour with some red tinges. Fruity aroma with some plums and a hint of cherry cake along with some raisins. The taste is rather fruity with raisins, cherry cake and a bit of caramel featuring. Fairly nice but not overly impressive.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DSG (2636) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - JAN 25, 2009
(11/6/08) Draught at The Drafting Room in Spring House. Thanks David T! Dark brown color. Aroma of plums, malt, some licorice. Sweet malty flavor with dark fruits, some candi sugar, licorice and a certain spiciness.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Jeppe (2633) - Ølbutikken, DENMARK - AUG 29, 2004
Pours a sky high foamy light brown head on a deep amber colored body with a fine orange gleam. Very heavy and penetrating sweet aroma of fruit, raisins, plum, apricot and oranges. Spices and cake tones also. Very nice, it really draws out the mouth water. Flavor is also heavy sweet fruity and citrusy with a bitter/harsh end and some alcohol present. Nut, toffee and spices notes. An extreme beer, very interesting, but too harsh in the end.

Sweet aroma of licorice. Burgundy body color with a big tan head. Head settled to a small one on top of beer. A rich sweet flavor to it that was good on the palate. A good beer.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 willblake (2587) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - MAR 29, 2004
750 mL Bottle, 3/29/04. Glorious rich ruby-brown, cloudy, syrupy pour. Massive brown head that fades, but a fine coating head lingers. Aromas burst of rich, ripe fruits - cherries, blueberry, apple. Nutmeg and sherry. Smells a tad barley-wine-ish. Flavor has initial metallic tang, but that leaves with the head and chil and is never noticable on the nose. Simple malts are the name of this beers game, but full and delicious. Fruits are lost in the flavor but for some raisin, plum that emerge with temperature. This beer really mellows and improves as it warms. Fantastic! Around 60F+ it is all Toffee, chocolate, and port...yumm!!
The palate is smooth, thinner than expected. Not sweet of cloying as I feared, but a balancing tingly carbonation that excites the mouth. The finish is rather abrupt and dry. Some hops bite closes the deal nicely. Another great experience form Ommegang.
