COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Pours a brownish amber with a big fluffy head. Aroma of dried fruits, bananas, alcohol, malt, brown sugar, and yeast. Taste is similar, fruits, malt, brown sugar. It’s a little lighter in taste than i expected, but still excellent.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2004 Cork removal could have been more enthusiastic. Wow! One of the finest noses I have encountered in a beer: loud and round, bubble gum, coconut, light perfume, cedar, fruit cake, fig, ripe plum, banana, subtle phenols, cinnamon, and the spicy alcohol is uncannily resemblant of cinnamon. Pungeant as heck as it arrives at room temp. Soft feel is like liquid silk. Brisk carbonation, somewhat velvety. Licorice notes, very sweet raisiny malt, honey, fig, and plum. Adequately spicy hop finish with nice touch of dryness. Absolutely balanced to perfection. I imagine this will convert to liquid bread within a few years when the malt really gets a chance to show its stuff. Acidity and slightly watery palate are the only weakness here. Otherwise a world classic.

Sweet aroma, cereal, malt, some fruit and yeast. Pours a very rich brown, a beautiful beer to look at. Sweet, malty, notes of spice, caramel and brown sugar. This bottle was actually brewed in Belgium, Moorgat I’m assuming, but i will admit i do think the American version is a little more complex, both are excellent though!

12oz bottle. Pours a dark amber color. The beer has a sweet, malty aroma, with a touch of spice. The beverage was relatively easy to drink, with a nice malt and caramel characters. Honey, tinge of toffee.

Hazy mahogany, thick light tan head. Aroma of ripe fruit, cherry, raisin, plum, fig, toffee, brown sugar. Taste is nice and sweet with lots of fruit again, light roast, bitter, doughy, well balanced. Medium body, more bitter finish than expected, medium high carbonation, some medicinal qualities but not to the point that it’s bad.

750mL bottle, pours dark reddish brown with a big beige head that takes a while to settle. Nose is candied sugar, caramel malt and light dried fruits. Flavour of caramel, candied sugar and lots of yeast. Highly carbonated. Very nice - it’s like a toned version of Three Philosophers.

AWESOME BEER! burgundy to ruby in color with a thick light brown head...aroma is huge and is of dark fruits, figs, raison, caramel, sugars and spices...flavor takes all of those elements and add many others to create a delicious treat (big in raison, nuts, caramels, spices, sugars, toffee, molasses, and yeast...); add an awesome palate to this great beer

UPDATED: APR 27, 2006 Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours brown with an off white head. Aroma of citrus, spices, and fruit. Flavor is smooth, citrus, and maybe a little over carbonated.
