Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Bottle. Dark copper pour with generous pillowy off-white head. Very sweet smell- malt, caramel, burnt sugar, cotton candy, and dates. A hint of sour wood on the nose, and also sometimes metallic notes. I swear this beer alternated between a few different distinct smells every third time I sniffed it, and occasionally the smell hit me as unpleasant. Similar on the palate. Sometimes it hit right, but sometimes it just felt too sweet or metallic. Haven’t had a double in awhile, and I know they’re not typically very yeasty, but I just kept wanting something to funk it up just a bit. A very nice beer, though.

750ml Bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)- Brown in colour with some red tinges. Fruity aroma with some plums and a hint of cherry cake along with some raisins. The taste is rather fruity with raisins, cherry cake and a bit of caramel featuring. Fairly nice but not overly impressive.

Cave-aged 750ml. bottle. Cloudy reddish brown color with a nice thick tan head. Nice mold growing on the cork and label. Fruity, spicy aroma with lots of fresh baked bread and caramel. Flavor was malty, bready goodness with dried fruits, caramel and pepper. While I doubt cave aging had anything to do with it, this beer was marvelous. The fact that it was a couple of years old probably made a big difference. I’ve had this a few times in the past but for some reason never rated it. I don’t remember it being nearly this good however. Maybe I should go and buy a bunch to sit on for a couple of years.

Bottle. Pours dark ruby, off white head. Aroma is musty, fruity, grassy, malty. Flavor is fruit, caramel, grass, wheat. I’ve drank this beer since it first came out and I always wanted to like it more, but I just can’t.

Christ,as soome as I opened this the aromas of Ripe bananas and spice bitch slapped me,Man awesome.Lots of candy in the buttery sugar form aka caramel.Heavy carbonation on the tongue which fizzles some of the flavor away but still this brew is pretty descent with the yeast strains and malts producing lotsa’ fruity sweetness.

Pours light brown with a nice khaki head. Aroma is light fruit, banana, chocolate, raisins, and some yeast. Flavor is fizzy banana, raisin, light fruit, and some chocolate and orange peel. Interesting; sour orange comes out in the flavor as the beer warms.

smelt like a squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag. flavour was definitely bulbous, though slow. combination of red winey acidity and super-estery pineapple lolly notes, or should i say chords cause they're all over the bloody thing. definitely out there - points for originality but not for enjoyability.
