COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Dark amber with big head. Aroma is slight sugary with notes of dried fruits. Flavour has fruit, caramel and a touch of anise and choclate, The finish is long and pleasant.

poured with a fantastic, foamy, frothy, textured, off-white to light tan head and infinite lace. Color is a lovely, clear coppery amber. Aroma is yeasty and malty. Flavor is dates, figs, raisins, and dark bread. Body is great as is carbonation. Finish ditto. Session beer??? mmmmm dunno

Decent brew. I had it at the recommended temp and it was very flavorful. A little heavy on the alcohol. Otherwise excellent.

Dark reddish brown color with a medium, beige head. Aroma is mostly carmel and sweet. Flavor is toffee and licorice, caramel, fresh bread, tobacco leaves, figs and plantains. Finish is tobacco and dry chocolate.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2007 Draft and bottle. The alcohol hides so well here. Very smooth flavor with a fruity palate that is not dominated by the crisp flavor. Good abbey strong that would improve in 1-2 years of cellaring. !

Update The nose is just beautiful. Plum, raisin, and berry pastry dance creating a delightful aroma. Sweet taste, notes of honey, plum, dried fruit and berry. An absolute treasure of a beer.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2007 Dark molasses-brownish pour. Nice smell of fruits and sweet malt. Upfront taste is sweet and settles into a very wine-like sour taste that I’m not a big fan of. Not nearly as well balanced as other strong ales, but nice to try.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2005 Oh, what a great beer! Poured into a snifter, where the head stayed the whole time. Rich, fruity dark fruit taste, hints of caramel,. Pleasant bitterness, not too much. Suggest this beer to all, will try more from Ommegang!

The foam head really exploded once I poured it into a glass, so beware. The aroma is fruity and has notes of honey and chocolate. The taste is somewhat heavy, but not too overpowering.
