COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Dark amber hue with a foaming brown head. Huge nose of plums. Nicely carbonated with a slikly aftertaste. Flavors of dark fruit, with tones of oak and pecans underneath, and finally a bit of alcohol in the finish. Palate is left tingling, very excited.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2010 Licorice surrounds the berries, cherries and black grapes, while earthy yeast acompanies the shy leafy hops in the finish...Rather dry for the style, with ligh brandy connotations in the aftertaste…Subtle caramel links all flavors admirably...

Pours with a very large, rocky, light brown head covering a very deep brown body with reddish highlights. Great lacing. Aroma of currants, raisins, rotten apples, dates, prunes, chocolate, caramel and a bit of banana. Taste is banana, bubble gum, licorice, nutty malts and alcohol with a decently roasted backbone throughout. Lively bubbles with a water like mouthfeel. Tastes like the same or similar yeast to thier Belgian Stout (Chocolate Indulgence).

One of my old favorites that I keep forgetting to rate. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of rich, dark malt, dark fruit, cherry hints, spicy, nutty. Tastes of honey, caramel, molasses, some dark fruit, some spicy elements on the finish. Great beer.

750ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, Bitter and Sour 2008)
Dark brown, very tight wispy head. Yeasty blue cheese aroma. Quite lively in the mouth. Full-bodied, but not as full as I would hope and expect from a dubbel, which it claims to be. On swallowing it fills out a little. Decent grainy taste, but spoilt by slightly too prominent alcohol. A very good simulacrum of Belgian brews, but not a patch on their best.

Deep brown hue with red reflects. Honest light brown head. Malty and yeasty nose rich of fruity overtones (prune, apples) and chocolatey. Initial sweet attack which is not unbalanced thanks to a long yeasty dry finish. Alcohol noticeable, but undistracting. Round medium body with very high carbonation, although not as much as rare vos luckily. Pretty good, but I’ve yet to be truly impressed by a dubbel and I must say that Ommegang has never impressed me all that much besides Three Philosophers.

A great take on the belgian style. On the sweet side with a lot of malt and some yeast. Sugar yes, adding to teh creamy mouthfeel.Apricots? Dates? Delightful accompanyment throughout the meal and after. One of the few beers I MUST have again over many other very good ones. Brown color and beautiful bubbly head
