Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Sour smelling and tasting, a little sweet. Ruddy brown in color. Much fizzier than I expected, with a long finish - carbonation overpowers the flavor a bit. Bitter in the back of the throat, but not overwhelmingly so.

Pours dark with a huge dense tan head. Rich dark bread and yeasty aroma with some spices, not particularly strong. Flavor is earthy raw coco malty sweet and enough bitter. Feel is lively and lush. Solid balanced and enjoyable.

Bársonyos kortyai - a kezdeti belga sörös benyomásokat idéző- rég nem tapasztalt ízélményt nyújtanak, mindenféle kiugró jellegzetesség nélkül, lágyan krémesek, aszalt gyümölcsös, halványan medvecukros színezetűek. Az a fajta ízvilág, amelyet mindig ismerősként üdvözölünk, megfejteni azonban nemigen tudunk.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2014 Bottle (750ml): pours a muddy brown with two finger tan head. Medium plus carbonation. Sweet cocoa. Alcohol pretty hidden. Pretty good.

Bottle. Aroma has caramel, malts, licorice and toffee to it. The taste is the same. It actually tastes fairly similar to a Unibroue Maudite, without the alcohol burn. Very smooth for the abv, very tasty. The finish is somewhat dry and chalky. Overall I’d say it’s a very solid beer, worth your time and I can absolutely recommend it! 8.2% alcohol.

Great dubbel style ale! Big billowy head. Complex aroma of malt and raisin and dark fruit and spice. Some sherry/rum notes, vanilla, and spice (licorice?) also in the flavor. Alcohol present, but pleasant. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Pours an opaque rust brown, highly carbonated with a lumpy foam head. Spicy yeast and malt aroma. Sweet and spicy fruit taste, like red apple and cherry. Slight licorice at the end. Moderate sticky mouthfeel with a slight cherry aftertaste.

nose: sweet sherry/port, cookie dough full of raisins, dates. super-ripe oranges. palate: very sweet but with a nice twinge of acidity/carbonation, tastes like some kind of heavily spiced dark christmas cake chock full of red currants, cherries, figs, decaying oranges. a bit too much for my taste. finish is the best part...dry and smoky and the hops finally show up, along with strong licorice. should be awesome with the right dessert. otherwise beware

Bottle. Pours deep but translucent brown with two finger head - beige, solid retention. Nose is fruity, caramel, marmalade, mild roasted grain, raisins and just a touch of earthy tartness. Palate is rich and hearty, full of textured caramelized malt sugar notes. Some very rich and nearly indescribable flavors open up right upon the first taste, with some light heat and alcohol as well as a taste that is almost meaty or glutamate. Flavor is a very complex merging of malt ad yeast flavors - cream, vanilla, banana. Some some bitterness and herbal flavors on the finish. A wonderful rendition of a dubbel that is worth revisiting over and over.

750ml bottle pours a very murky copper amber with quite a bit of fluffy, off white head. Nose has loads of yeast character, spice, clove, pepper, lots of bubblegum, some ripe banana, some candy. Flavor follows right along, candy, some white pepper, bready notes come through, some caramel, clove, bubblegum, banana. Full bodied, sticky finish. A bit overdone.
