COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Drank this after a glass of Pyramid Heffeweizen, and the flavor kicked my ass. Smells like liquor, but tastes very sweet and then tangy.

"deep and complex. intermingling dark fruit and spicy aroma and flavor. one of the better ones i’ve had within the style. read brewer’s description...you can actually taste or smell most of those things!"

(Bottle) Dark chestnut body with a bid, tan head that recedes to form stiff peaks. Very little lace. Aroma is heavy with sugar; unidentifiable spice, dark malt, hint of molasses, banana, pear. Light to medium body; chalky mouthfeel. Very nutty, caramel malt flavor; some floral and fruit notes on the tip of the tongue; moderate bitterness. Very sweet, a little cloying.

Bottle. Mahogany brown pour with a nice tall bubbly beige head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, some dark fruit, malt. Full body with a nice complex taste similar to the aroma with more toffee. Soft carbonation.

Dark caramel color with a fizzy tan head from a cork and cage bottle. Aroma of malty caramel. The head dissipated quickly leaving just a few sparkly bubbles rising to the surface. Surprisingly dry with flavors of caramel, a bit of dark fruit, an a harmonious blend of spices. Easy to drink in spite of the alcohol level. Really nice double.

12oz Bottle. Pours a dark mahogany color with a thick tan head that fades slowly to nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit, and bit of caramel sweetness. Taste of roasted malt, dark fruit, mix of honey and caramel sweetness and bit of chocolate in the background. Subtle bitterness and a dry finish. A good medium nody, smooth and creamy. A well crafted beer that has no hint of the 8.2% ABV. Well worth checking out.

Bottle. Cloudy brown pour with a thick beige head, and classic splotchy lacing. Tons of dark fruit and liquorice in the aroma, sweet with chocolate, bread and candy notes. Flavour has more bitterness, with dark fruit, liquorice, chocolate, caramel, and a touch of citrus. Dry finish. A bit of an off-tasting bitter note at the end that keeps it from being outstanding, in my opinion.

I had to google the word "preheat" to make sure there wasn’t a hyphen in there some where. I’m older now and I’ve drank too much. I drink too much. I forget things like that now. I guess that’s what getting old is like. A continuous disconnect from things you once took for granted. Time to preheat the oven for the steaks.

Poured from corked bottle into chalice. Dark opaque brown with thick, long lasting light tan head. Smells of wood, dark fruits, spicy Belgian yeast. Taste has more of the same, with some boozy warmth in the finish. Feel is nice and smooth, and medium bodied. Overall, kind of mild for a dubbel, but very pleasant flavor. I really like it.
