COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Excellent brew. Nice frothy head from the pour. Sweet fruity aroma initially. Slight taste of alcohol and warms as it goes down. Slightly bitter finish which is nice. Nice dark ruby color with a little sediment. Great belgian from the USA. A top quality beer and one that should be thoroughly enjoyed.

A beautiful appearance, essential dubbel looks. Aroma is fruity with hints of malt, raisins, nuts and candy. That raisin feel hits you on the tongue, with hops and yeast. Some sweet caramel also, very well masked, a fantastic dubbel.

Beautiful deep copper color with a rich tan head. Aroma of Raisin, Carmel, vanilla, prune, and alcohol. Drank at just below room temp for full effect. Great malty flaver, with a mix of fruitiness. World class beer.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2008 From a 750 ml bottle - This brew poured a tawny, long-lasting head of small-bubbled foam with a complex, fruity aroma (which was apricot-like to me). This is actually a pretty good "abbey ale",and one I’ll mark down to purchase again

(Bottled) Dark, opaque, reddish brown color with a medium, beige head. Very strong rye-pudding aroma with lots of dried fruit and a hint of alcohol, plus orange-peel and other spices. Very malty, somewhat anise-licoricey flavor with plums and spices. Initially sweetish and caramely, but dries out nicely towards the finish. Quite full-bodied palate with perfectly balanced carbonation. A really tasty, extremely balanced and strong dubbel brewed with taste (not overdone).

Bottled. Grandiose, creamy, orange tinted, aged ivory head, leaving behind thick lace, sitting atop a dark, reddish amber brown liquid that is murky, opaque. Lightish aroma is malt laden, caramel, toffee, alcohol and a bouquet of fruit(prune, apple, pear, grapefruit), honey, musky yeast, milk chocolate, some clove, some kind of sweet roastiness. Medium-full body, lots of foamy, velvety carbonation, semi-dry finish, pleastantly dry, some watery-syrupy character, thus not quite dry enough. Flavor is caramel, toffee, clove, roasty milk chocolate, citrus(orange rind), alcoholic warmth on the finish and in the flavor, bitter finish is roasted milk chocolate, touch of clove and citrus. Interesting flavor an innovative design on this beer, crossing some stout qualities(carbonation, roastiness, chocolate) with standard belgian qualities of clove and citrus and alcoholic warmth. Clean, drinkable, balanced and nice...complex!

Pop shot, huge head, fruity yeasty aroma, complexity throughout. Fantastic strong ale. Love it.
