COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Thick fluffy head not unlike many in its style. This one is very complex. Many flavors hit you all at once. Shared this with some non Big Beer Geek friends and it was too much for them. For me though, this was extremely rich and inviting! I love it!

Rater #1600! Yeah Me! Tasted 5/31/11. 750ml cork and cage bottle. The first pour is heady with a creamy colored hue. Filtered with lively body. Dark amber hue. Aromas of dark fruits, piedras, and cocoa dust. Green apples and raisins. Very well rounded olfactory! Full bodied and just as tasty as I remember. I know I’ve had this a hundred times, I just never took the time to tick. Full and sweet. Bitter and tangy. Nice mix of citrus and chocolate. A very sticky and spicy. Subtle flavors of cola and spicy pepper. Medium dark toast and brown sugar. Dark fruit and dark chocolate wafers. This is a standard for a reason!

mmm this stuff’s pretty good, kind of fruity, a nice red ale, didn’t care for the yeasty dregs but read the label and knew not to pour them.

750ml bottle - Quality. This beer poured up a huge, foamy, long lasting head and is a very good looking reddish brown color. The aroma was sweet and good if a little light. It tastes malty and fruity with light carbonation. The finish is pleasantly bitter and crisp with a bit of nice, warming alcohol. And at four bucks a bottle at my local World Market, it’s a great deal on a Belgian brew.

A hazy, burgandy pour with a nice, big-bubble head. Aroma was of apricots and oak. Eaten after an Ethiopian food meal, it battled with the spiciness, and didn’t want to win. After some downtime, the ale revealed its toasty side. Stunning-looking in the glass, like a sunset through smog fumes.

[750ml bottle, 8.0c] Taste with the guys from Institut de la Bière. Give me mmmmore! Deep rich burgundy color that begs ‘drink me’. Good head and awesome lacing. Chocolate, dark fruit, caramel aroma. A rich flavor of sweet fruits that proves gratitude from being drink. A rich bold taste with a very nice finish of toffee. A true Abbey-Style.

Big frothy head with Mike Jordan hangtime. Just the site of it had me drooling. A rich mahogany sunset that is almost hypnotising. I thought I was in Aruba on the beach at dusk. Has a ballanced flavor profile with slight earth and fruit. Nice dry finish. Alcohol is well hidden. A tasty ale indeed. I highly recommend.

My first time with an Ommegang brew and they did not disappoint at all. Huge aromas of raisins, figs, plumbs and a spicy character that is near perfect. The first sip and I had a few thoughts of what I could taste and that was caramel, some toffe, said dark fruits and some yeast. Wonderful brew that I will buy again and again as long as it’s this high of quality.
