COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

750ml bottle. Pours a large, tan, pitted, creamy head. Good, patchy lacing. Clear, ruby colored body. Aroma is a mixture of rich fruit - dark cherry, grape, plum and mild raisin. Not overwhelming. Also some peppery spice. Aromas are present in the flavor profile as well as some light rum and warming alcohol. Light-medium body, lively carbonation. Malt forward flavor is complemented by the lovely yeast profile and finishes super dry. A really well crafted, balanced, delightful dubbel.

Poured from bottle into trappist glass. Still not entirely certain how this beats out Chimay Rouge, but it’s a damn fine example of the style all the same. Dark fruit nose (spice, figs, cherry) with a deep, sensual taste. Perfect colour, too.

Poured into a brandy snifter, it still has only a subtle aroma, toffee and raisons. But the flavor is not so subtle; rich and complex with sweet burnt sugar malts playing with dark fruits (plums) and yeasty esters (clove, a little banana). The aroma becomes a little more intense as it warms and you swirl away all that nasty carbonation.

750 ml bottle into globe glass, no bottle dating. A bit of a gusher when I popped the cork, but not bad. Pours crystal clear dark red color with a nice 2 finger khaki head with great retention that reduces to a thick lacing cap that lasts. Some nice thick lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big cherry, apple, fig, plum, molasses, caramel, biscuit, and yeast spices. Nice and well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of big cherry, fig, apple, plum, caramel, molasses, candi sugar, light chocolate, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of fruitiness, molasses, and spices on the finish for a bit. Medium carbonation and body; with a slightly creamy and smooth mouthfeel that drinks easily. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming on the finish noticed. Overall an excellent, delicious, and highly enjoyable Dubbel. Great flavor balance and easy drinking.

This beer was delightful. Spicy banana bread & toffee aroma. Additionally at times I thought I smelled something a little like soy sauce. Amber color with a dark tan head. The taste has the sweet bread and toffee that was detected in the aroma. Very yummy taste. Thick oily mouthfeel.

Pours deep mahogany/auburn with a creamy finger and a half tan head. Smells malty and fruity, with hints of burgundy that comes out more as it warms. Tastes fruity, with a wine character and some caramel/toffee notes underneath. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft, but present, mouth-carbonation, Ommegang Abbey Ale finishes with sweet fruit notes.

A - Pours a nice rich brown color with very nice amount of off-white head that retains fairly well. There is also some nice lacing left behind. S - Rich and assertive fruit aroma, very sweet. Also a touch of sweet malts breaks through. T - The immediate taste is the sweet fruit and maltiness that is in the smell. This is followed by a bit of mellowing malt flavor. There barely any noticeable bitterness or bite here, the flavors are well extremely well balanced. M - Medium bodied and fairly creamy, but smooth and just the right amount of tingling carbonation. D - A complex beer flavor wise and even mouthfeel-wise, but the flavors are well balanced and the beer stays fairly drinkable for its 8.50% APV.
