Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of yeast, fruit, and blue cheese. Poured brown with a hint of orange. I guess you can all it burgundy. Big foamy head. Very good lacing. Opaque. Sparkling. Flavor is complex. Hard to discern different tastes. Medium sweet and lightly bitter. Malty! Kind of is what it is. Medium to full body. Lively carbonation. Dry finish. Overall, I don’t like Belgian Ales, so take my rating with a grain of salt, but it is drinkable.

Bottle, 8.5%. Yeasty, slightly funky aroma. The flavour starts off very malty with some malt syrup, melassis. Ends on a citric note that lifts the beer a bit. Has a little cardboard to it, but it does not matter much.

On tap at Stone 12th, but I’ve tried this many times over the years. After learning about red beers, then Chimay red, I stumbled upon this and I like it better than Chimay Red. My standards are narrower now, but at one time this was one of my favorite beers. Tasting this after such a long delay, reminds me of why I liked it: Lots and lots of sweet long boil melanoidins and caramelization. I see this flavor also in many IPAs and a few English beers. I like it. Much better than Ommegedon yuckiness.

Bottle from Plano Beverage in Plano, TX. Pours an orange/red with beige head. Nice floral ,spicey, malty aroma aroma. Flavor is medium sweet, nice caramel, black licorice notes, spicy hops. Palate is medium mouth feel with champaign like qualities, carbonation wise. Over all, I enjoyed this.
