Commercial Description:
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Drank 750 ml bottle, 10 celcius, aged 1 1/2 year imported from US. Strange musroom like aroma, almost thought it was corked! Dark amber opalescent pour with extremely rich yellow foam head. Very complex malty flavour with notes of dates, dark cherries and partly refined dark sugar. Exceptional maltiness. Full thick palate with lively fizz and long finish. Buy it and forget it in a closet for a year, it’s well worth it!

Redish-mohogany pour with a huge tan head. Aroma of malt, spice, fruit. Flavor is rich with fruity undertones. It mellows out nicely at the end, little dry. Very good beer. I have had one of these many years before I joined this site that I forgot about in my cellar for over 6 years. It ages well.

Great abbey ale to start out with. Sweet, but not overwhelming. Medium body.

Bottle. Poured a deep red-brown with a tan head. Aroma was dark but fruity, as was taste. Complex but still drinkable and tasty.

Pours cloudy amber. Cream/white head with some lacing. Nice malty, sweet, full bodied, ale. Some carmel flavour, well rounded.

12oz Bottle. Rated blind. First out of a set of 12 Abbey Dubbels. Strong aroma of banana yeasts, full pear and a bit of bread. Incredibly fruity. Pours a brilliant clear deep ruby red, with a plenty of ochre-tinted head, rocky and lacing long. Boozy, sharp malt flavor up front. A twinging metallic pilsner malt base, yields some strong alcohols and a bit of lime juice. Odd. Prickly. The flavor profile isn’t particularly wonderful. A sharp, biting metallic flavor, with overly strong, unbalanced alcohols. Ends a bit thin. Less than mediocre in my book. GUESS: La Trappe

This is definitely the best Abbey I’ve ever had. Aroma is fruity with a hint of hops, appearance is a very dark red/burgundy with a thin head. Malty taste with hints of apricot and chocolate. Rather decadent and enjoyable.

From the 1 pt. 9.4 fl. oz. bottle. The pour is a distinguished looking burgundy-brown with a hefty supply of foamy tan head. The aroma is vibrant with wheat, yeast, and caramel malts and subtle with the alcohol. The mouthfeel is of good texture and stability. The taste is pleasingly pungent with sweetness and licorice and a nice hoppy finale. Ommegang does it right.
