Indulgence (83), Ajo, Arizona, USA Sep 6, 2008 Gorgeous deep, almost opaque, red mahogany color, tan light effervescent head with orange highlights, thin, tiny bubbles, good retention and lacing... aromas of sweet, candied fruits, vinous wine grapes, dark raisins, yeast esters and fresh bread. So smooth! Complex flavors of toffee, floral hops, light and dark fruits, chocolate covered raisins and a long finish that ends on a caramel note - truly a layered beer, as iit warms the ambiance changes and the beer reimagines itself, iImpressive example of the Belgian style being made by an American company and a very satisfying experience. RaginCajun (259), Dallas, Texas, USA Sep 5, 2008 Dark body with a moderate diminishing head. Strong, attractive aroma with a fruity sweetness and a hint of malt. Smells like candy almost. The nose is deceptively thin with a lot of carbonation, but the flavor comes out after that. Lots of malt on the flavor, although its not my favorite malt profile. There are just enough notes of various fruits to make this a rather complex brew; you get a different flavor on each swig. This is a great beer, although I think they could tone the carbonation down a bit so that the nose is not dominated so much by fizz. Otherwise, this is a near perfect beer. v64 (59), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 4, 2008 Absolutely delicious. Very large tan head, pours hazy brown. Unique aroma, dark and fruity, like licorice and chocolate. Dark fruit flavor comes out in the taste, with a noticeable edge of hops. The alcohol blends in well also, but it’s noticeable. Great dubbel, one of the best I’ve tried. yumyum (55), barrie, Ontario, Canada Sep 2, 2008 really, really enjoyed this beer. I have considered chimay rouge my go to beer if I want a tasty beer that is also easy drinking. This is my new standard for a dubbel. I has a much richer colour than the chimay. I has more of a fruitiness both on the nose and the palate.. Carbonation is quite minimal which gives it a nice mouthfeel. I could drink this ofter. Very good beer. flatmatt (79), Northville, Michigan, USA Sep 1, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours crimson with a nice tan head. Aromas of dark fruit and tart apple and banana. Flavors are bready, yeasty, with elements of dark fruit and hops. Nice flavor, a little weak on the palate, but pretty good stuff.
