COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Bottle. Must've got a little warm, because this opened with a gusher. Fortunately, I saved most of it. A thin, fizzy head under a dark brown body. Has a deep, rich taste of molasses or brown sugar, with subtle spiciness and tart highlights. Carbonation gives it kind of a champagne-like texture. It's winey-sweet without being cloying, and I also get notes of slow charries and raisins. Pouring in the sediment from the bottom adds an impression of grape tannins. Very finely done.

UPDATED: JUN 15, 2013 Rating = 1/5 = Good, but I would not seek this out again - Moderate aggressive pour. Nice 2.5 finger head of a root beer color. Tons of huge bubbles in the head. Very thick and frothy. Nice lacing which is long lasting. Beautiful alcohol legs. Aroma has lots of sweet fruit, mostly dark cherry with a somewhat artificial or syrup taste. Very wet on the palate with a slight creaminess. Carbonation gets in the way of the taste. First sip is light fig and cherry flavor with some alcohol presence. Mid sip shows some malt character, but not very robust. Malt character is more pronounced in the mid sip and in the finish. Finish is somewhat long lasting and mostly reminds of rum soaked cherry with a plesant creaminess. Overall, I had many nicer dubbels, but this is on par with similar american versions of the style. Wouldja - No
