Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely on the finish.

Bottle. Poured a hazy brown with a large tan rocky head and had good lacing. The aroma was of sweet toasted malts, dried fruit, a leathery yeast and had a moderate alcohol scent. It tasted slightly sweet yet acidic in the beginning and finished about the same with a mild alcohol flavor. Mouthfeel was light to medium in body with the texture being quite creamy. Overall an assume brew and quite satisfying to drink.

On tap at the Mayor of Oldtown. Appearance: small khaki head, great lacing, dark amber to light brown color. Aroma: toasty malt, light floral, prune, molasses, leafy yeast. Palate: medium to full body, soft carbonation, creamy texture, dry finish. Taste: dark sweetness of molasses and malt with light sweetness undertones of fruit. Overall, great beer, good balance, unique for style, but not too far off track of tradition.

A touch of alcohol in the nose, sweet bready character with notes of honey, like pumpernickel bread with honey lightly spread on it. A little fruity. Very drinkable for the style. Nice beer in a style I tend to not care for.

A big bottle shared with my brother-in-law. Pours with a persistent, fluffy tan head with lacing. Rich red-brown colour. Smells of malts, raisins. Tastes of malts, sweet, and Belgian yeasts.
