3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The aroma is yeasty and complex with lots of malt and earth with both grassy and herbal hops. The appearance is dark brown with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall it’s good but not great.

750 bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Nose is burnt malts, come chocolate, and a hint of alcohol. Taste is the same with some spiciness and a bit of hotness. Smooth fluffy body. Decent but I was hoping for a bigger body on this one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Serving: draft at Fire Works Leesburg. Pours black with a light tan head. The nose has light dark fruit and roast notes. The flavor has notes of earth, roast, bubble gum, musty yeast, and stone fruit. Medium body with soft carbonation. Tasty.
Updated tasting: A 750 ml bottle from Total Wine Sterling. The nose smells of old shoes and cola. The flavor has a strong anise note with notes of cola and musty hops and malt. Not appealing at all and a drain pour. Proof positive that this brew doesn’t age well at all. I’m leaving the rating the same based on the draft version.

Draft at Tyler’s in Raleigh. Dark, not quite black with a big, fizzy head. A delicious combination of black licorice, brown sugar, and dark chocolate. Tons of flavor with a sharp carbonation that cleans the palate, making it easy to drink.
