Draft at Tyler’s in Raleigh. Dark, not quite black with a big, fizzy head. A delicious combination of black licorice, brown sugar, and dark chocolate. Tons of flavor with a sharp carbonation that cleans the palate, making it easy to drink.

750ml. bottle, purchased at Tops Liquors, Tempe, AZ. Pour is dark, almost black, with a moderate tan head, that diminishes rapidly if not swirled. Aroma is malty and yeasty, with some dark fruits and just a hint of licorice. Taste is thick, complex and well balanced. Sweet and malty up front, then a bit of tartness, bitterness and again the fleeting notes of licorice. Finish is slightly tart, and bitter, with some lingering heat. Pretty nice ale.
