3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Big Texas Beer Fest.
The beer pours a very dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is has some roasted malt, as well as some dark fruit, chocolate and Belgian yeast notes. The flavor is similar, with the chocolate and dark fruit notes going very well with the yeast and roasted malt notes. Tastes a lot like a Belgian imperial stout. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

750ml bottle. Pours black body with a moderate tan head that lasted until mid-glass and left a substantial coating of foam on the glass. Very pleasant aroma of fruity Belgian yeast with plums, raisins, and a bit of chocolate. The flavor is similar with ample fruity Belgian yeast, plums, raisins and a bit of chocolate. Medium-full bodied. Well-rounded mouthfeel. Very good.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Monks. Dark brown with a pillowy head that left some lace. Roasted barley on the nose, otherwise muted aroma. Taste is more complex with an interesting mix of dark malt flavors with unroasted bready malt flavors. Body seems clearly backed by flaked oats. Reads quite thick for a strong ale without being sweet and syrupy. Faint notes of dates and white pepper. Still feels oddly fluffy without substance.

Tap. Nice cap of khaki head on a murky dark muddy brown. Ripe plums and some prunes in the aroma as well as candy sugar. Quite sweet and has lots of prune and toffee notes, malty, some chocolate, slightly bittersweet in the finish and some light cakiness as well. Medium to thinner body with lively carbonation and warming. Decent

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer pours nearly black with a moderately full, beige, fluffy head which settles to a thin, pillowy layer and leaves tight, scattered lace. The nose is very clovey, figs and dates, Belgian chocolate, earth and light florals, faint anise and toasted notes; pleasant but pedestrian fro the style. The flavor is similar with more clove, cinnamon, dry chocolate, earthy, figs and dates, and some toasted almond toffee notes. The palate is moderately full, soft to lively, velvety, and slightly chewy. The finish is rich and sweet, earth and chocolate, some figs, and lingering toasted almond notes. This beer was like a prototypical BDSA with the clove and rich malt notes but did have a few interesting complexities as the flavor progressed. Nice beer to drink but seemingly not the experience of some better examples of the style. Ommegang always does nice things and this was no different but just a decent attempt at the style.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Happy Hour draft at Chappys thanks to Hannah. Pretty potent overall. It leads with the wild, chanpagne notes that I assume are from the house yeast and finishes with some bitterness from the roasted malts. Good and unique.
