3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml. bottle. Pours a thick, tiny bubbled, well retained, light beige head, with extensive lacing, over a black (SRM 40) body.....nose is dried fruits, including, plum, raisin, hints of cherry, floral tones....taste is slightly sweet, with dried plum, raisin, dried pear, cherry, light hints of cola (vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg), bits of citrus, finishing medium dry with light lingering spice bitterness.....mouth feel light of medium, slightly sticky, alcohol adds slight warmth, carbonation adds light tingle on the tongue. The mouth feel is surprisingly light, leading this beer into the Trappist end of the spectrum. The balance within the malt aromas and flavors is wonderful and this hits the style quite brilliantly. 3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
In short: A fruity and roasted Belgian dark ale that is a bit too sweet. Just ok.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed relatively fresh not long after purchase.
The look: Near black body topped by a persistent tan head.
In long: Nose is roasted, dried dark fruits of all kinds along with a certain spiciness. Body is full, a very lively carbonation, spot-on sumptuous big Belgian ale mouthfeel which is not surprising coming from Ommegang. Taste is more fruity than expected. Lots of raisins, dried fruits, fresh juicy fruits and with the fruity flavors that are not limited only to dark fruits. A lots of chewy malts that feel cake-like. A strong roast presence reminiscent of burnt toasts. Light notes of roasty coffee with a mocha coffee character. Not really any chocolate here. More spiciness than I expect from a beer that is not spiced. An unexpected light woody sensation. A high sweetness sensation (wiith molasses flavor) that is unexpected and even awkward considering the roasted level. This could have been a somewhat enjoyable beer but its high sweetness really brings down the score for me, the first glass was ok but drinking a full 750ml was not an easy task. I don’t think this is a bad beer at all, nor do I think this is a good beer, and if you ask me how important I think it is to have strong convictions I will tell you with hesitation that it might possibly be of some importance.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
"Pours cola brown or darker. Aroma yeasty and dark fruit, with some underlying cocoa as well. Prickly carbonation, light to medium bodied for the abv. Pretty nice, but the Ommegang specialties are beginning to not be worth the price when the regular releases are just as good or sometimes better for half. "

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A brownish black appearance with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate, caramel, spices, toffee, and coffee. The flavor is a bit dry with some figs, raisins, chocolate, and a hint of citrus sourness. The palate is a bit thin for a beer of this flavor and aroma profile. Overall its an enjoyable beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Poured a clear black color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of candi sugar with light dry fruit notes is quite sublime. Taste is also a great mix of candi sugars with some dried fruits and a solid Belgian malt backbone. Body is full enough for style with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Some spices can also bed detected. Very solid offering and this is a beer I could have more regularly.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours ruby black with a thin head. Fruity, chocolaty aromas--stone fruits and dark chocolate, raisin and caramel. Flavors are dark fruits up front, then chocolate, coffee, black pepper; raisin and bready notes in the finish. Noticeable alcohol warmth. Wow. This is really good! Peppery mouthfeel with a light, dry finish. This is a definite keeper.

bottleshare thanks to Beechner224. A ton of fruit in the nose, figgy. Taste is a lightly tart fruity flavor. Ok I guess.
