I love dark full beers, but this one was a little too large tasting. It was a little hard to enjoy because it was very strong tasting. It is hard to describe exactly what I didn't like specifically. I remember thinking wow, that is a big beer.

From bottle into snifter. Black semi clear, tan head around edges. Huge molasses, dark fruit, anise, pepper. Sweet, light bitterness, oily body, some bitterness. Herbal bitterness, long anise, very good.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
From 750ml, corked, from a 3-pack bought at Costco around Dec (3+ months), poured into an Ommegang branded Belgian tulip glass
Aroma: Cherries, fruit, maltiness
Appearance: black, frothy tan head
Taste: Medium sweet, light bitter
Palate: Medium bodied, creamy texture, bitter/dry almost a dark chocolate bitter-like finish
Overall: Really surprised there’s no fruit or spices in this. The yeast must be incredible. Lots of cherries on initial aroma which fades a bit to more maltiness. Incredible body and nice Belgian dry finish with some dark chocolate overtones on the finish. Easy to drink, hard to find anything to complain about.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very nice roasted Caramelized malt aroma with banana nutty Belgian yeasty in there and maybe slight cocoa. Taste is a very smooth Belgian dubbel with a bit more body and maltiness than some others. Really smooth and very tasty. Slight sweet finish, but not sugary. Nice spiciness from the Belgian yeast.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Super bomber into a 16.9 Belgian. Pours a robust dark ruby black, midnight cherry haze. Full head, 2 inch at peak, light brown in color. Sizes down to cover the glass with lack ng everywhere. Aroma of booze, toasted figs, dates, rasin, bread, cherry, caramel malts, grass. Taste of sweet cherry, rasin, chewy yeast, thick malts, amber is signifigance, plum, dark grapes, red wine, hoppy after bite within malt presence. Solid Belgian dub here, prominent booze fixture, ample dark fruit presence, lovely malt backbone, just nice. Awesome

Poured a dark brown to black colour with a tan head that left thin lacing. Aroma is dark fruits and spiced yeast with hints of malt and alcohol. Flavor is dark fruits, spices, yeast, and roasted malt notes. Full bodied brew with good carbonation ending in a dry finish. Alcohol is well hidden.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
In short: A fruity and roasted Belgian dark ale that is a bit too sweet. Just ok.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed relatively fresh not long after purchase.
The look: Near black body topped by a persistent tan head.
In long: Nose is roasted, dried dark fruits of all kinds along with a certain spiciness. Body is full, a very lively carbonation, spot-on sumptuous big Belgian ale mouthfeel which is not surprising coming from Ommegang. Taste is more fruity than expected. Lots of raisins, dried fruits, fresh juicy fruits and with the fruity flavors that are not limited only to dark fruits. A lots of chewy malts that feel cake-like. A strong roast presence reminiscent of burnt toasts. Light notes of roasty coffee with a mocha coffee character. Not really any chocolate here. More spiciness than I expect from a beer that is not spiced. An unexpected light woody sensation. A high sweetness sensation (wiith molasses flavor) that is unexpected and even awkward considering the roasted level. This could have been a somewhat enjoyable beer but its high sweetness really brings down the score for me, the first glass was ok but drinking a full 750ml was not an easy task. I don’t think this is a bad beer at all, nor do I think this is a good beer, and if you ask me how important I think it is to have strong convictions I will tell you with hesitation that it might possibly be of some importance.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
"Pours cola brown or darker. Aroma yeasty and dark fruit, with some underlying cocoa as well. Prickly carbonation, light to medium bodied for the abv. Pretty nice, but the Ommegang specialties are beginning to not be worth the price when the regular releases are just as good or sometimes better for half. "

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A brownish black appearance with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate, caramel, spices, toffee, and coffee. The flavor is a bit dry with some figs, raisins, chocolate, and a hint of citrus sourness. The palate is a bit thin for a beer of this flavor and aroma profile. Overall its an enjoyable beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Poured a clear black color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of candi sugar with light dry fruit notes is quite sublime. Taste is also a great mix of candi sugars with some dried fruits and a solid Belgian malt backbone. Body is full enough for style with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Some spices can also bed detected. Very solid offering and this is a beer I could have more regularly.
