3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Capone’s. Pours turbid orangy with huge fluffy white head. Nose is spicy and yeasty, not a surprise with this style, with some rock sugary funk, hopcitrus, apricotty fruit, and peppery notes. Tastes assertively hoppy, on the dry side, spicy, yeasty, and with mid palate fruit. Complex and enjoyable.

Yellow orange with large white head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, and the taste is sweet and creamy with a slightly bitter finish. Tastes like Duvel.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bronzed straw-yellow. Tight spackle of froth slowly establishes itself with a gentle pour. Banana taffy, bubblegum, apricot jam, pear syrup, melon (muskmelon, cantaloupe), and peppery alcohol line the estery but fairly dull nose. Distant clove, sulfur, and some very faint floral hop suggestions. Relatively alcoholic and very yeasty with notes of pistachio and paint. Watery and flimsy body. Fluffy carbonation. Fruity and slick with a citrus marmalade hop character and a contrasting scratch of alcohol, upfront. Hops are somewhat floral, though there is a disharmonious canned-mandarin-orange element, as well. What hoppy brightness is perceptible is unable to thrive beneath the paintlike yeast and off-putting banana taffy which blanket the palate with a filmy residue. Dry crackery malt accents never become more than a mere whisper due to the lack of cleanness. Slight mineralic grit offers short-lived relief from the omnipresence of alcohol and doughy yeast. Hop bitterness, while clean, lies buried beneath the yeastiness. Closes with a vaguely herbal and grassy hop flourish alongside light fusel astringency, cakey malt, unripe banana and honey-drizzled toasted malt. All beer should be clean, and it’s absolutely mandatory that a Belgian golden be just that. Very displeased with the yeast character and the rampant banana taffy, lack of lively phenolics, to name a few things. About what one would expect from this mediocre-at-best brewery.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: APR 27, 2011 Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joe’s in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a pale yellow color with a medium sized white head that produced good lacing. The aroma was crisp floral and fruity hops with a tangy sugary undertone. The flavor was yeasty and a bit funky and must with light bitter fruity hops and undertones of sugar, pepper and tangy malts. The finish was medium length dry, musty and fruity hops. Medium body. Reminded me of a hoppy saison. Decent.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted from 750mL bottle. Pours a cloudy tan orange with a thin beige head. Hoppy nose with that signature Belgian yeasty smell that always reminds me of lemon and biscuit. Palate is super mellow with the hops taking a back seat. Lemon zest, biscuit, black pepper, and light hops flavor round out the palate. The carbonation is very high with a sticky texture and a rather short finish. This is an easy drinker that will go great with foods.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Tribes in Mokena, IL: This poured a clear amber body with a respectable head. The aroma was citrusy with other light fruit and a soft floral character. The flavor adds more orange and a subtle spiciness. A decent enough ale worth repeating, but nthing special.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The aroma has plenty of malt as well as flowers, herbs, fruit, and spice. It reminds me of a german beer hall. The color is deep gold with a large head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is typical for the style. Overall a fine beer.

Tap. Pour is rich looking clear brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is fruity, roasted malt, light floral, and light spice. Hops are present but take a back seat to the malts. Flavor is also quite spicy and fruity with hints of pine hop and belgian yeast. Nice.
