This was a good beer with lots of earthy notes ,yeast and barnyard , it reminded me of when I was a kid and walked into the chicken coop with the smell of hay , kind of like light barnyard smell, "not bad " in any way just original. I enjoy beers for what they are and the flavors they bring.

Bottle. Muddy maroon pour. Flat. Bourbony, cherry, raisny notes. Medium to fuller bodied. Kriek mixes well with bourbon aging. Nice flavors. Impressed. Do this again

Corked bottle. 2010. Dark brown color with a reddish haze. Oak, bourbon and confit cherry in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with hint of bourbon and dreid cherry. Other dried fruits. Some oak. Powerful and warming.

Dark brown with light head. Tastes almost like a barleywine but without the sour taste at the end. Instead its bitter in a good way.

This is very cool beer you just donít see a beer like this aged in bourbon barrels. Aroma is rich, wood, yeast, bourbon, malt. A very full flavored beer including flavors of caramel, bourbon, wood, vanilla and cherries. Wish they had made more.

NOTF 2010. Deep amber pour. The nose is loaded with oak and bourbon. Lots of caramel and vanilla over a heavy rich sweetness. The base beer seems to be completely dominated by the barrel here. Sweet toffee and a rich unctuous chewiness. Itís pretty nice in spite of the lack of harmony.

This seemed to be a great beer to barrel age. Some of the fruit still shined through. Lots of wood and bourbon. Flavor had a hint of sour with vanilla and cinnamon, a bit like pie and finished with smooth and sweet bourbon.

Tasted on 10/5/11 from a 750mL bottle, thanks to Rachel. This bottle has the same label that Corby mentioned earlier. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a bit of amber tint, and an average beige head that slowly recedes to thin lace with a fairly thick collar. The nose is full of bourbon vanilla, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, oak, earthy yeast, chocolate, and just a hint of natural cherry. The flavor features the funky tart cherry and earth a little more, with the bourbon notes of vanilla, chocolate, toffee, caramel, burnt brown sugar, and oak. The cherries give this a bit of cherry cough syrup flavor, but not in a bad way. As a matter of fact this is a flavor that I truly enjoy. The body is full, lightly sticky, with average carbonation, and a long bourbon, cherry, oaky, vanilla, and caramel finish.

Draft. Pours a dark bruin body with an off white head. Malty bourbon like body. Dark fruit tones, plums, fig, and cherries that get buried quickly in a sea of vanilla and bourbon. A hint of wood but a big alcohol on this one. The sweet boozy body detracts quite a bit.

750ml generously shared by shadowane. Thanks again Rich! From the tag around the neck of the bottle: "Three Philosophers Quadruple Ale was aged nine months at Ommegang. It went into Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrels in September 2009 and was bottled n May 2010. Only 200 bottles were created". Pours a murky dark chocolate brown color that is completely opaque with toffee/chocolate brown colored edges when held to a light and a one finger off-white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lace left behind. Sweet boozy aroma with subtle hints of bourbon that do not overpower the other notes. Vinous with sweet dark fruit alongside some roasted sweet malt. An interesting blend of toffee, caramel, hazelnut, dark cherry, plum and raisin in the nose. I was surprised that the barrel presence wasnít stronger with only faint hints of dry oak/wood and subtle bourbon. I usually prefer for the bourbon presence to be less intense so that the other characteristics can shine through but in this case I would have preferred a bit more of it. Medium boded with some soft, tight carbonation up front and an interesting combination of flavors. More sweet than anything else with lots of vinous dark fruit especially dark cherry and grape. This is complimented nicely by the bourbon barrel presence. Sweet and boozy with subtle bourbon, faint vanilla and dry earthy oak/wood. Again, as the aroma suggests, the bourbon doesnít dominate, letting the other flavors come through. Slightly toasted malt backbone with hints of sweet hazelnut, toffee and caramel. Overall, this beer is a touch one dimensional with a lot of vinous sweet fruit flavor. The malt presence could be stronger and the bourbon flavor is a bit mild. Iím glad that you could still taste the quad/base beer but I wish that it was a bit more complex.
