afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 2, 2009 750ml bottle served in a shaker glass. Dark brown pour with a lasting one finger tan head. Smells of dark bitter chocolate, licorice, and copper. Lots of dark chocolate in the flavor, some coffee, and anise as well. Full bodied with minimal carbonation. Lasting chocolaty bitterness in the finish. Leaves wonderful layers of lace all the way down the sides of the glass. Not something that I would expect Ommegang to brew but very tasty none the less. kevd193213 (477), Hope Valley, Rhode Island, USA Mar 2, 2009 750mL bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin, whispy brown head. Aroma of burned malt and chocolate. Taste mostly dominated by malts with a nice bitter dark chocolate finish. Decent, but a little pricey given the lower ABV and compared to their other offerings. Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Mar 1, 2009 Pours extremely dark brown with a frothy head. Succeeding pours have no head to speak of. Aroma is of lots of black malts and some faint hints of powdered cocoa in the background. First impression is over-whelmingly boozy, especially for a beer that is only 7% alcohol. Tastes like they fermented it at 90. As the beer warmed up significantly and I was able to work out almost all of the carbonation, it turned into a decent little beer, especially when mixed with a Belgian Red from New Glarus. Overall average beer, not stupendous. Fairly disappointed in Ommegang, who are usually stupendous. highibus (421), Mill Creek, Washington, USA Feb 26, 2009 pours a deep black with thin white head. nice aroma of burnt/roasted malt. flavor is much of the same with no noticable hops. mdium to lighr body. a bit thin, but tasty.. carruthm (1110), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 24, 2009 minor lacing on the glass, a viscous black body, dark chocolate nose, somewhat bitter, resounding high cocoa palate. foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Feb 22, 2009 750ml bottle. Pours deep black with a large tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate with some roasted malts. The taste is mostly chocolate with some hints of coffee, vanilla, and caramel. Expected more chocolate and depth in the flavor, but good overall. HonkeyBra (1258), Lemont, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2009 Very dark brown pour with a bit, tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate, some sourness. Flavor is bitter chocolate, some malt, some coffee. It is decadent in that it’s hard to finish all on your own. Overall, pretty nice, well made, tasty. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Feb 17, 2009 Deep brown in color and cloudy with a thick tan head. Aroma is of coffee, chocolate, cocoa and roasted malts. Taste is of milk chocolate, mild coffee, and nuts.
